So my good friends, still behind the 8 ball here, I know I got three records and a book to review and a foreword to a dear buddy’s book to pen, but the whole shithouse is up in flames, so bear with me, ‘kay?
…Aww, there were the sweetest couple I’ve ever seen, they both just emanated a pure and visceral, tangible, golden love glow that was impossible to miss, I got to know ’em over the course of six or seven years, on many morning walks, down by the winding river. He was a prize fighter in his day, then managed a local hotel until the dementia ate him up, he still had a powerful, loving heart that gleamed brightly from the inside out. They had no car but Mike’s loving wife Dorothy would hold his hand while they walked way too far to buy heavy groceries, sometimes they could successfully cadge rides from neighbors, but mostly not. They reminded me of another couple a few of you might be familiar with, but really, I just came to love them both. Mike passed last year. He’d been feeding a stray cat, cat was pregnant. Dorothy rallied support to keep the whole family and got them all spayed and neutered. Last time I talked to Dorothy, I was able to give her a real hug at the thrift store. She and I just recognized each other. Mike would always give me and my son the peace sign. I dropped a card off at her house in late December and just like that, she’s gone, too. I am happy she was called home to be reunited with her true love, but the world becomes ever darker….

When I finally made my way to Tinseltown, Dizzy was living with his friend Ketra, my cool old goth friend, and like ten other dudes with black hair teased up Steve Stevens style…IN A ONE BEDROOM. Dizzy was the only one who was cool to me when she wasn’t around, a groupie would bring three large pizzas, and those Loreal blue/black Nikki Sixx worshippers would inhale it all in under a minute, same with beers, poof, already gone. The metal head people were like vicious rats at Sunset Strip’s closing time, some of ’em were already going grunge, gangsta, or commercial country. Dizzy had problems like the rest of us, but was always gentle, sensitive, respectful and fun to be around. I liked him alot. Rest Easy, geez.
