TROUSER PRESS & CREEM & MAYBE SOMETIMES AT A FLEA MARKET OR IF YOU GOT YARD SALE LUCKY A BOX OF OLD ROCK SCENES

I sat in history beside this beautiful rich girl way outta my laegue named Paulette-she liked Duran Duran which was exceptional for a suburban rich girl and she told me to get my haircut like Limahl. Who Nick Rhodes had just produced. Instead, I started spiking my hair up like Billy Idol. But that was progress. Prior to that, I just looked like Walso in the “Hot For Teacher” video, ya know? Nerd city, Elvis Costello. When I was a kid in hicktown Midwestern purgatory the old people’s idea of being cool was like, Huey Lewis, okay? The popular blonde preppie kids at my school who weren’t full on mom picks out their clothes, turnedup collar golf shirt preppie with designer jeans and maybe Michael Jordan tennis shoes, wore like white fedoras with black hat bands from Chess King in the mall. Member’s Only jackets. White suitcoats, skinny ties, breakdance shirts with flaps and snaps, penny loafers with no socks like Don Johnson from Miami Vice. The cover of the little entertainment magazine they gave away free at the grocery stores, it was actually probably called “The Entertainer”, it always alternated between like, this mainstream cheesy pop hair band from Toledo called the Affair who my bass player the popular local DJ actually liked and emulated because they had lights and management, and a much cheesier cover band all the thirty something/single people went to see called, wait for it: BMW! They did like really bad covers-think of the very worst songs you ever heard on A.M. radio, “Takin’ Care Of Business” or “ba-ba-ba-baybeh you aint seen nothin’ yet”. “China Grove” by the Doobie Brothers, okay? They thought that shit was like epic cool. They all had gold necklaces, chest hair, mustaches, cheeseball grins, curly hair, Hawaiian shirts UNDERNEATH white suitcoats. What a town. Every two or three months me and my arcade rat BMX bike trail, Iron Maiden and Dio stoner buddies and me might get somebody’s mom-Cheryl or Enid, to drive us all the way out to the nearby town’s hippie record store. Some guy’s dad had owned a Tool & Dye factory, left him with an inheritance which he promptly squandered on a record label that signed ancient studio musician fiddle players and bizarre psychedelic prog bands from Germany. He had a bunch of oversized paisley velvet hippie era clothing tailor made, and he spent the rest of the loot on a record store in the middle of cornfields near a high school and a fire department in the middle of fucking nowhere, but it still became a tristate destination record store mostly because he hired a really exceptionally cool, soft spoken hippie blues and garage punk enthusiast named Dave A., that’s the guy who got me into the Stooges and the Doors when I was 11 or `12 and still stuck on the Monkees  and Wings. That store was just like an old garage sale, it was the leftovers, the pickedover remanants of all the trends that had long expired-from Pet Rocks to Disco Duck. Blacklite posters and used porno mags. Lots of faded old Trouser Press magazines, but that’s where us greasy kids could learn about the sixties and seventies, pre MTV, pre Etsy, pre cellphones, pre internet. This was the Walkman and Pac Man era-Def Leppard and Duran Duran, okay? So being much older than me, like my parents age, Dave A. was a product of another time, you know that old Bob Seger lyric, “I’ll sit and listn to ’em by myself”? That was Dave A.-he’d get off work, and maybe buy a stack of frozen tv dinners from Clyde Evans grocery store, some Old Gold brand cigarettes, he’d buy several bottles of malt liquor, and fortified wine, climb the stairs to our shoebox one bedroom, key his way inside and take off his coat, and before he even got his shoes off, the record needle would be playing Canned Heat or “Electric Mud”. He could sit through both sides of a Devo or Pere Ubu album, he was a more patient man than me. He loved Elvis Costello, considered him like the biting new wave Dylan. He got me a job at that record store when I was about 17, and a blonde chick named Dawn would drive me to work out there cause I do not drive. He moved in to my purple apartment when he got evicted from his family home after his parents and beloved dog all died. He had a friend who was also into old blues records and they’d share joints and talk for hours about old blues dudes I’d never heard of. When he had hard liquor, he’d play some George Thorogood and the Destroyers, who I ended up liking, or Blue Cheer or the MC5. He loved acid, we tripped together all the time. I knew some girls who liked Cinderella and Ratt and Bon Jovi, they all hungout at a shithole biker/redneck heavy metal dive called the Wayside even though they were way underage, they had long legs, stonewashed jean jackets with little buttons on ’em that said Poison or Bon Jovi, big hair, and leather miniskirts and all the older dudes with Transmaros and mullets and rising sun muscle shirts would take turns taking them home and having their way with them, some of ’em did not even have their braces off yet-I was still a bit shy, and in love with a chick who liked the Smiths and Depeche Mode. I was trying to look like Phil Oakey from the Human League, or any of the eighties new wave baby Bowies. I had bad glasses, so sometimes, I’d try going around without them, and only end up like looking really extra bonus klutzy cause I was dropping shit, blind as a bat, bumping into things, crashing my bicycle in her yard. Finally got contacts and things got better. She liked Howard Jones when he was new, “New Song”, remember that? King “Love & Pride”, U2 “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Invisible Sun” by the Police. Did we go to see the “Dream Of The Blue Turtles” together at the Frontier Theater in the American Mall? It feels like we did, but I might be dreaming. Anyways, aside from the “Circus” and “Creem” magazines, you could still but at the grocery store news stand, there was nothing to do in my town, except if you had an older friend who was sixteen and could drive you around. There was a lake where people’s moms took them to swim way out in the rural county near the state park, a rollerskating rink where I got beatup repeatedly by a weightlifter karate dick named Paul M.. Do you remember the bad guys in “Some Kind Of Wonderful” or “Pretty In Pink”? Those were exactly the kinda super privileged, classic car driving, predator bullies I had to fucking reckon with all my life, while school administrators, rightwing coaches, and short sleeved/fat tied-full ashtray on their desk cause everybody still smoked indoors back then  juvie authorities provided cover for their gross misconduct and violence and instead came after us working class weirdos, lower class brats, for being too new wave, or in my friends, Dekan and J.R.’s case, too heavy metal. Remember that anthem, “You Can’t Stop Rocknroll”? My rent was about $600 a month I think, maybe less, but I still never had enough to pay the heatbill because I bought beer and cigarettes and bags of burgers and fries from the old fifties burger joint across the street where all the whitehaired old people always insisted on calling me “ma’am” to let me know some more, how they did not like my black hair or leather jacket. Assholes drove by us and always felt compelled to yell, “BOY GEORGE!” or “JOEY RAMONE!”, like it was  a bad thing. Man, that place sucked, my only respite was in the music. We could drink some booze or even beer and play those old records and new wave cassette tapes on my broken boombox and lose ourselves in the songs, escape into a sonic oasis where we were safe from abusive stepfathers and popular kid bullies and chainsmoking, sexually frustrated “Cagney & Lacey” wannabe butch tough guy lady probation officers who seemed to get off on intimidating minors, painstakingly solitary confinement and permanent curfew, behavior modifying us into corny country club conformity. They still think of themselves as altruistic, like they really believe they were doing some kind of good and philanthropic service for the community when they locked up teenagers for “chronic dress code violations” and helped cover the sins of the ruling class fortunate son football players, grandsons of local judges, grandsons of steel magnates and cheese factory owners-the son of the downtown bar owner-they all had total impunity-arsonists, cat killers, bully sadists. The meddlesome country club moms were all like these bedridden Stepford Wives, running their own kid’s lives by telephone, some of ’em were swingers. They all watched shit like “Dallas” and “Dynasty” and “Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous” and later on, “Melrose Place”. Lady golfers. Catalog shoppers. Secret pillheads. Swimming pool loungers, bon bon eaters. I knew what Prince meant when he said, “you don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude”. I always had a stack of old magazines wherever I went, and a notebook. The local badguy from the Karate Kid, before the reboots, when he was just an evil bully and not a misunderstood middle aged loser still stuck in his glory days nostalgia, the local judo hotshot, he loved to elbow me when I was going up the stairs, knock my Pegasus Trapper Keeper outta my hands so all my shit would splay out all over the hall and I’d be getting stepped on by other jocks as I scurried to pick it all up, future song lyrics, band logo sketches and pinups of Adam Ant, Billy Idol, Boy George, Nina Hagen; or some blonde mulleted quarterback senior I rode the bus with might grab my notebook outta my hand and loudly read my sentimental prose about that new wave chick I told you about in a really cruel and mocking voice for all the laughing kids in the study hall. He’s still that hometown popular asshole. Still rules the school, is still big man on campus in that town. Unreal, ya know? I never knew my dad really but when I was 13 he sent me a package with Martin Crenshaw, Elvis Costello, Psychedelic Furs, Cyndi Lauper, Tears For Fears, and Elvis Costello records. I’m thankful to be outta that town where so many of my boyhood friends were killed, bullied into suicide, or pushed into military service or imprisoned in jails or the factory or just tortured forever on nonstop probation. I always related to that Rose Tattoo song, “Scarred For Life”. I still feel that way, exactly. “Kenny Silvers The Boy Who Disappeared”.

ABBIE FOREVER!

Not all of my influences are glam or new wave. Cats like John Trudell, Stokely Carmichael, Ralph Nader, Malcolm X, and Fred Hampton had a big impact on me, too. Joe Strummer. Abbie Hoffman. I wish I did not have to teach everybody I meet about the Beats, Phil Ochs, the radical yippie tradition, the proto-punks, the Diggers, the American Indian Movement, the Up Against The Wall Motherfuckers, the Brown Berets and Black and White Panthers, but you know, it’s kinda like become part of my job, by default, I guess. All Power To The People, brothers and sisters and friends of the revolution. ABBIE HOFFMAN, PRESENTE!

SHE’S SO UNUSUAL

Oh man, 1983 was a crazy year for me, escaped Baptist school in Southern Kentucky and fell in love, discovered the joys of eyeliner and thrift store shopping, pierced both ears and got my first tattoo. My holy trinity back then was Prince, Billy idol and Cyndi Lauper, now I was into Duran Duran, Adam & The Ants, and Van Halen as well, but the big 3 were IT! Not that many people make a debut album as good as Cyndi’s which is like one of those perfect, near lawless, timeless masterpieces that stays with you all your life. I started buggin’ my metalhead guitar deedlers to help me work out a heavy arrangement of “Money Changes Everything” way back before I found out it was a cover. I just love that song so much and in the video, ya know, Cyndi’s band look alot like the Revolution while she goes flying around in a motherfucking trash can like a magical cross between Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, David Lee Roth, and Oscar the Grouch. I went to see her at King’s Island with my gangsta O.G. friend Sean and some son of a bitch Ohio Buckeye fratboy piece of shit threw his shoe at poor Cyndi and hit her in the face with it while she sang “Time After Time” and I straightup cried right there in front of my gangsta friend and while Sean does not believe in tears, I think he knew me so well, he almost begrudgingly understood. Sean and I knew each other since the fourth grade when we got paddled for fighting on the playground-me and Turaj versus Sean and Dwayne, you can’t make this shit up. We had our first beers together probably, our first cigarettes, playing hooky, committing late night acts of vandalism, stealing beer brazenly outta suburban country club people’s garages which was risky business back then, our friend Danny who killed himself after fighting that shameful bullshit first gulf war based on lies, he got beat up pretty badly by Todd K.’s dad while attempting to steal something outta their garage, maybe beer, maybe bicycles, i was not there. I just know the old man roughed up Danny pretty good which was no easy feat back then. Danny went to the Catholic school cause he lived with his mom and marine stepdad but he beat the fuck out of a big fuckin linebacker dude named John L. who was a big wall of meat football player at my high school who disapproved of my dangling skeleton earrings and second hand little old man shoes and smoking jackets and salmon fedora and ridiculous four or five concho belts, d’ya feel me? MTV was a huge deal for me, I’d go to a kid named Erni F.’s after school to watch MTV and they had a number you could call to make requests and you know, being 12 or 13 or whatver I thought I was gonna get to talk to Martha Quinn, but no such luck. That would not happen til I ranaway to NYC in 1984 and I met her and Stiv Bators on Saint Mark’s Place in the village where I used to loiter round for hours talking to a goth chick named Lisa Genre (RIP) who was teaching me about like, Skin N Bones, Angels In Vain, Lords Of The New Church and the Divinyls. Madonna was cool in “Desperately Seeking Susan” when they dressed her up like a downtown Village Girl, but you know she never had no heart, really. Not like Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi was a real girl, Madonna was just like a ruthlessly ambitious disco tramp with exceptionally nice looks. I never did like material girls. Cyndi was a junk shop goddess. I love, love, love her. If I was rich, you know, I’d probably own one of those Cyndi Lauper dolls we’ve seen online. I was a sucker for her whole thing, man. The Rock & Wrestling Connection with Rowdy roddy Piper and Captain Lou Albanao, her videos, I was a Goonie, myself, ya know? So I will always love Cyndi, I’ll go to my grave still singing along with Cyndi. I feel so sorry for kids who’ve grown up you know with the Orwellian Monopoly Media and all that fake fucking awful bullshit muzak that aint got no heart, all those even worse than McDonna garbage pop sluts, ugh, just awful. If you wanna show me a good time, make sure there’s something involving Billy Idol, Prince, and Cyndi Lauper. And maybe New Order. Or Duran. The Jesus & Mary Chain. And booze. And makeup. Big Country. The Alarm. The Smiths. Dream Academy. The Cure. You know. Old new wave. George Michael, Michael Jackson, Inxs. Throw in some Zapp…”Diver Down”…”I love you more than I did when you were mine…”

“Assange’s life and the life of our democracy are hanging in the balance, in this case that is destroying press freedom & judicial integrity. Doctors4Assange implores Home Secretary Braverman & Attorney General Garland to release the most consequential publisher of our time now. It is a travesty that a publisher is languishing in Britain’s most notorious high security prison, when he shouldn’t have been imprisoned in the first place. The precarious condition of Mr. Assange’s physical & psychological health underscores the need for his immediate release. Given his chronic lung condition, Mr. Assange may be at increased risk of serious illness resulting from Covid infection. In addition, his mental health is placed at further risk by the solitary confinement he’s been forced to endure since his positive Covid test.Confirming these concerns, Mr. Assange has already experienced a mini-stroke, which occurred on the first day of his extradition hearing in the UK High Court. Compounding these health injustices, Mr. Assange was reported to have tested positive for Covid-19 last week. These abuses have been grinding down Mr. Assange’s mental & physical health for over a decade, generating risk not only of suicide, but also of physical illness like cardiovascular disease, known to increase under conditions of psychological stress.” (-Dr. Jill Stein)

“The only gang problem the Haitian people have are the Western colonial gangs led by Don Biden & supported by his CIA & pentagon killers. Where is liberal/left on this issue? Most have fallen for racist propaganda of crazed gangs & Black folks unable to govern themselves. We need everyone to tweet out in opposition to the UN invasion of Haiti. #stopUNinvasionofHaiti The UN must stop being a puppet of Western powers. Russia & China if you abstain on this like you did on Libya, you will be called out. This resolution must be vetoed. This invasion is premised on racial tropes. The Haitian people are clear – stay out. Biden had a chance to support democracy when it came into office & choose not to. Your puppet govt is in trouble & now you want to invade??” (-Ajamau Baraka)

JOHN 5

Man I never was a big White Zombie fan after maybe their first two records but I remember living on Rivington Street in the 80’s and seeing Ena Kostabi all the time when he was in the band cause he hung around with my older female roommates Lisa and Minkie. I discovered John 5 via his work with David Lee Roth, ya know and I like how he always plays what is right for the song rather than just deedling all the time for no reason. I think a couple other flash lead guys-Steve Stevens and Billy Tsounis also have that taseteful elegance, like they can Steve Vai and Eddie Van Halen all over the place til doomsday but they play to illustrate, show you pictures, I kinda love that. All my favorite guitarists-Mick Ronson, James Honeyman-Scott, Derwood, James Calvin Wilsey, Jimmy James, they all played with nuance and soul and not just weedle weedle weedle for no reason which is a turnoff to me, part of why I don’t really like much heavy metal wankage. John 5 though, yeah, I think he’s cool-defo not a Marilyn Manson fan by any long stretch even in the Dope Show heyday or when Alistarr from the Ultras had the Dali Gaggers with ex Spooky Kid Gidget Gein, they were just never my cuppa fake Alice Cooper. I was my own fake Alice Cooper! But man I wish I could find a competent rocknroll guitar player to join my deadend desert ghost town, elderly goth, antisocial glamarchist, and Maximum Torch& Twang punk band, THE LONELINESS influences include: Tex & The Horseheads, Chris Isaak, Marty Robbins, The Beasts Of Bourbon, Comatones, Generation X and Lords Of The New Church. Recordings, touring, video, live and in person at your next protest/riot! Meanwhile, word on the hairmetal podcasts has it John 5 will be replacing poor old Mick Mars in the Crue. 5 seems like the perfect fit, if Mick is no longer up for the arduous tours. The Crue seem like such irredeemable dickheads, but 5 survived Brian Warner and company, so I’m sure he’ll make out alrite.

BEEN HAVING TROUBLE EDITING MY COLUMNS IN HOTMAIL

Seems that government spy software you read about in WIRED tech magazine does not like certain words or phrases I use frequently like Julian Assange and Ralph Nader, Dr. Jill Stein, Lee Camp, and Ajamu Baraka. I’m up early this morning, had some dreams I ran into the singer of Ratt at a rock magazine store and told him I empathized with his struggles to fly the Ratt flag since Robin Crosby passed with all those other guys always battling, lawsuits, lineup changes, etc. In the dream, I was buying some Stooges and Doors posters and a couple of like 80’s pinup Van Halen magazines. Wokeup with lotsa worries cause I got an appointment this morning with an older handyman neighbor who is supposed to help me repair a glass window I accidentally broke in a holy shit wasps panic. He wants to try to source glass from an eccentric hoarder neighbor, whereas my idea is let’s save time, get a nice piece of plexiglass cut to size at the local hardware store and silicone it in and call it good. At 7:30, I’m gonna head down to the local grocers by foot to try to purchase a box of donuts for the crew. At one o clock today, we’re supposed to be seeing a different dude with a truck and a dolly and hopefully a ramp who is scheduled to remove a bunch of big appliances and heavy debris from the place we’re moving into. The owner of that place is also a hoarder who has left a shit load of like sheet metal piles, chicken wire, limber, old poles in concrete just laying around, most of which she expects us to just cohabotate with and work around forever. The prime space in the garage is monopolized by a six foot high stack of mosaic floor tiles on pallets and stuff like that, big tubs of paint, multiple kitchen cabinets in this tiny garage that have to be moved to one of her many other storage properties to make room for our stuff and I’ve also got to find a big piece of wood to place over the jackhammered cement flooring in the back of the garage from an abandoned bathroom build  project, it’s kind of discouraging the work I got in front of me. High winds also blew down lengthy sections of fence surrounding the perimeter of the property, I’ve never mixed cement before, and it appears to be a serious security issue as the house is an a sketchy neighborhood. Bliss bubble yuppies in cars never notice crime elements in their rental neighborhoods, but I’m over fifty, know drug culture when I see it. There’s definitely a vibe on that street, so ya know, I’m pushing forward with this big overwhelming relocation project but only for my family who’ve totally outgrown the rickety disintegrating unheated desert trailer. I think Stephen Pearcy was in my dream cause I’ve been thinking about my old punk rock girlfriend Steffani who he also dated, and hoping she is happy in life, she was working at a radio station in the midwest last I heard with my catholic school party bro, Tom Staudt, I loved that they knew each other and were both in the music business. THey were both really good friends to me in my teens and early twenties before we all made our escape. We came from a bad town. Toxic sinkhole-crack, racism, sado sports culture, gang violence. Many of our former school friends ended up murdered or killed themselves there. That’s how bad the culture was we grew up in. Preppie motherfuckers from that suburban sports school still act like it was all normal and hunky dory. Ugh. All I can say is even with all my problems, I’m thankful I am not in fucked up fucking Fratboy, Ohio, USA! USA! Fuckshit, man, my old lady’s dada is in the ICU and yeah it’s all the same symptoms as everybody who is fit as a fiddle one day, then starts to have theses “sudden” and “unexpected” health issues after being browbeaten into taking multiple “safe and effective” medications. It’s so fuckedup. We’re praying for the old man, poor guy. He wants to live long enough to see his estranged wife and mother of his four children again. I’m rooting for the old grumpy dude like a motherfucker. We’re listening to Bob Seger in his honor.

MOST PEOPLE ONLY SKIM THE HEADLINES OR SLOGAN OF THE DAY

If it flatters their preferred partisan politicians, they say it is, scientific and facts based, if it makes their preferred partisan politicians look like the sellout fraud corporate whore grifter ruling class scumbags they truly are, and that’s ALL OF ‘EM, they just instinctively filter it out as “fake news” If their team is fucking them over, they don’t even wanna know. They just love their phony baloney “Dynamite Magazine” political/media celebrities so much, they shrug and look the other way when presented with evidence of their brazen corruption. www.opensecrets.org Take the fraud squad for instance, they campaigned on challenging the system as working class outsider candidates, now they’re in there, on the red carpets, they talk about being traumatized by rude protestors, vote for evil bullshit genocidal dangerous wars, and say nothing on behalf of Cuba, Venezuela, or Assange or Hale. The squad are every bit as poisonous to democracy as any hillbilly militia pro cop Maga protestor on the Capital steps, because they provide “educated” middle class property owners, le petit bourgeoise, with the ILLUSION they are being somehow “represented” by these complicit enablers and agents of the murderous super rich who they work for. That aint democracy it’s just late stage grossout monopoly capitalism.

AUTUMN MAKES ME WANNA HEAR THE JACOBITES & BOUNTY HUNTERS FOR SOME REASON

Maybe cause I associate my instructions to Dave Kusworth and Nikki Sudden with this golden era from my long gone past and a groovy folk chick named Nici I used to live with in Cambridge, Ma. We had a rent controlled therefore still affordable, big, cold, spacious bohemian second floor apartment in the wet leaves of Kenmore Square back in the early Sub Pop record club nineties. That rad chick loved the Jacobite’s so much, and also Rowland S. Howard and the Waterboys and Bob Dylan and Snatches Of Pink. She kept Nikki Sudden’s guitar string wound up in a little medicine bag she wore around her neck. I sure do miss that good lady, we were both kinda beatniks, though I was probably louder, wilder, more hedonistic, and radical leftist, she taught me about all kinds of music and literature and all about like, the Wobblies and Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and the Zapatistas-all the pro power to the people, anti capitalist, working class tradition of righteous resistance culture defying the swells in the towers, the bossman, the white devils warpig honky death machine. Ahh yes, the beautiful chiming, gloriously cascading raggedy harmonies and scarf wearing bedraggled hypsy prince boozy troubadours inspired us all. Now even Kevin Junio is gone, Epic Soundtracks, Darrel Bath, the whole lot of ’em. If Heaven has a Velvet Basement…I’ve also been grooving to the Boys, that covers album created by the Golden Arm Hiroshi and the Tokyo Rat-The Golden Rat “We Got A Right”, anything Rowland, Nikki/Kusworth related. Soothes me. and a little Mazzy Star.

RAIN

Brothers & Sisters & Friends Of The Revolution, I don’t know what we’re gonna do to turn this ship around. Evil billionaires at the top of the capitalist pyramids have consolidated unprecedented power, seized control of nearly all media, own the politicians outtright via not just campaign donations and shit, but legalized bribery, kickbacks, cronyism, and blackmail. All I really got worked out is we’re all gonna have to overcome our most basic biases and prejudices and form new alliances, new kinds of coalitions. I used to think you could “raise people’s consciousness”, but nowadays, with the mass surveillance panopticon and complete control of both old timey tv media and the new social platforms, I think it’s unlikely we’re gonna be able to wake anybody up, particularly as how the most stubbornly compliant and conformist protectors of the status quo-the middle class college safespace gatekeeper management class and landlord people have already been marketing branded as supposedly woke, and taught that anyone to the right (or left) of Hillary Clinton and Bill Gates is a dastardly commie, I think it’s becoming ever more unlikely that we can get our former peers to ever look beyond the advertising smokescreens of the imperialist great reset agenda. It rained and rained buckets last night, there was a glorious lightning show and we saw two skunks. A baby skunk got lost amidst the mosquito net draping we had hanging in the carport for our son’s swimming pool. I love the rain but kinda dread trudging through the knee deep muddy floodlands to the post office this morning. As my comrade John Dissed says, we gotta keep finding new ways to communicate with one another outside the bullshit sports team loyalist frame and empty suit charade of right versus left.

REJECT ALL MONARCHIES, TYRANTS, DESPOTS, BILLIONAIRES, SPOOKS, & SECRET SOCIETIES

“The fawning adulation of Queen Elizabeth in the United States, which fought a revolution to get rid of the monarchy, and in Great Britain, is in direct proportion to the fear gripping a discredited, incompetent and corrupt global ruling elite.

The global oligarchs are not sure the next generation of royal sock puppets – mediocrities that include a pedophile prince and his brother, a cranky and eccentric king who accepted suitcases and bags stuffed with $3.2 million in cash from the former prime minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, and who has millions stashed in offshore accounts – are up to the job. Let’s hope they are right.

“Having a monarchy next door is a little like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and has daubed their house with clown murals, displays clown dolls in each window and has an insatiable desire to hear about and discuss clown-related news stories,” Patrick Freyne wrote last year in The Irish Times. “More specifically, for the Irish, it’s like having a neighbour who’s really into clowns and, also, your grandfather was murdered by a clown.”

Monarchy obscures the crimes of empire and wraps them in nostalgia. It exalts white supremacy and racial hierarchy. It justifies class rule. It buttresses an economic and social system that callously discards and often consigns to death those considered the lesser breeds, most of whom are people of color. The queen’s husband Prince Phillip, who died in 2021, was notorious for making racist and sexist remarks, politely explained away in the British press as “gaffes.” He described Beijing, for example, as “ghastly” during a 1986 visit and told British students: “If you stay here much longer you’ll all be slitty-eyed.

The cries of the millions of victims of empire; the thousands killedtortured, raped and imprisoned during the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya; the 13 Irish civilians gunned down in “Bloody Sunday;” the more than 4,100 First Nations children who died or went missing in Canada’s residential schools, government-sponsored institutions established to “assimilate” indigenous children into Euro-Canadian culture, and the hundreds of thousands killed during the invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan are drowned out by cheers for royal processions and the sacral aura an obsequious press weaves around the aristocracy. The coverage of the queen’s death is so mind-numbingly vapid — the BBC sent out a news alert on Saturday when Prince Harry and Prince William, accompanied by their wives, surveyed the floral tributes to their grandmother displayed outside Windsor Castle — that the press might as well turn over the coverage to the mythmakers and publicists employed by the royal family.

The royals are oligarchs. They are guardians of their class. The world’s largest landowners include King Mohammed VI of Morocco with 176 million acres, the HolyRoman Catholic Church with 177 million acres, the heirs of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia with 531 million acres and now, King Charles III with 6.6 billion acres of land. British monarchs are worth almost $28 billion. The British public will provide a $33 million subsidy to the Royal Family over the next two years, although the average household in the U.K. saw its income fall for the longest period since records began in 1955 and 227,000 households experience homelessness in Britain.

Royals, to the ruling class, are worth the expense. They are effective tools of subjugation. British postal and rail workers canceled planned strikes over pay and working conditions after the queen’s death. The Trade Union Congress (TUC) postponed its congress. Labour Party members poured out heartfelt tributes. Even Extinction Rebellion, which should know better, indefinitely canceled its planned “Festival of Resistance.” The BBC’s Clive Myrie dismissed Britain’s energy crisis — caused by the war in Ukraine — that has thrown millions of people into severe financial distress as “insignificant” compared with concerns over the queen’s health. The climate emergency, pandemic, the deadly folly of the U.S. and NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine, soaring inflation, the rise of neo-fascist movements and deepening social inequality will be ignored as the press spews florid encomiums to class rule. There will be 10 days of official mourning.

In 1953, Her Majesty’s Government sent three warships, along with 700 troops, to its colony British Guiana, suspended the constitution and overthrew the democratically elected government of Cheddi Jagan. Her Majesty’s Government helped to build and long supported the apartheid government in South Africa. Her Majesty’s Government savagely crushed the Mau Mau independence movement in Kenya from 1952 to 1960, herding 1.5 million Kenyans into concentration camps where many were tortured. British soldiers castrated suspected rebels and sympathizers, often with pliers, and raped girls and women. By the time India won independence in 1947 after two centuries of British colonialism, Her Majesty’s Government had looted $45 trillion from the country and violently crushed a series of uprisings, including the First War of Independence in 1857. Her Majesty’s Government carried out a dirty war to break the Greek Cypriot War of Independence from 1955 to 1959 and later in Yemen from 1962 to 1969. Torture, extrajudicial assassinations, public hangings and mass executions by the British were routine. Following a protracted lawsuit, the British government agreed to pay nearly £20 million in damages to over 5,000 victims of British abuse during war in Kenya, and in 2019 another payout was made to survivors of torture from the conflict in Cyprus. The British state attempts to obstruct lawsuits stemming from its colonial history. Its settlements are a tiny fraction of the compensation paid to British slave owners in 1835, once it — at least formally — abolished slavery.

During her 70-year reign, the queen never offered an apology or called for reparations.

The point of social hierarchy and aristocracy is to sustain a class system that makes the rest of us feel inferior. Those at the top of the social hierarchy hand out tokens for loyal service, including the Order of the British Empire (OBE). The monarchy is the bedrock of hereditary rule and inherited wealth. This caste system filters down from the Nazi-loving House of Windsor to the organs of state security and the military. It regiments society and keeps people, especially the poor and the working class, in their “proper” place.

The British ruling class clings to the mystique of royalty and fading cultural icons as James Bond, the Beatles and the BBC, along with television shows such as “Downton Abbey” — where in one episode the aristocrats and servants are convulsed in fevered anticipation when King George V and Queen Mary schedule a visit — to project a global presence. Winston Churchill’s bust remains on loan to the White House. These myth machines sustain Great Britain’s “special” relationship with the United States. Watch the satirical film In the Loop to get a sense of what this “special” relationship looks like on the inside.

It was not until the 1960s that “coloured immigrants or foreigners” were permitted to work in clerical roles in the royal household, although they had been hired as domestic servants. The royal household and its heads are legally exempt from laws that prevent race and sex discrimination, what Jonathan Cook calls “an apartheid system benefitting the Royal Family alone.” Meghan Markle, who is of mixed race and who contemplated suicide during her time as a working royal, said that an unnamed royal expressed concern about the skin color of her unborn son.

I got a taste of this suffocating snobbery in 2014 when I participated in an Oxford Union debate asking whether Edward Snowden was a hero or a traitor. I went a day early to be prepped for the debate by Julian Assange, then seeking refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy and currently in His Majesty’s Prison Belmarsh. At a lugubrious black-tie dinner preceding the event, I sat next to a former MP who asked me two questions I had never been asked before in succession. “When did your family come to America?” he said, followed by “What schools did you attend?” My ancestors, on both sides of my family, arrived from England in the 1630s. My graduate degree is from Harvard. If I had failed to meet his litmus test, he would have acted as if I did not exist.

Those who took part in the debate – my side arguing that Snowdon was a hero narrowly won – signed a leather-bound guest book. Taking the pen, I scrawled in large letters that filled an entire page: “Never Forget that your greatest political philosopher, Thomas Paine, never went to Oxford or Cambridge.”

Paine, the author of the most widely read political essays of the 18th century, Rights of ManThe Age of Reason and Common Sense, blasted the monarchy as a con. “A French bastard landing with an armed banditti and establishing himself as King of England against the consent of the natives, is in plain terms a very paltry rascally original…The plain truth is that the antiquity of the English monarchy will not bear looking into,” he wrote of William the Conqueror. He ridiculed hereditary rule. “Of more worth is one honest man to society, and in the sight of God, than all the crowned ruffians that ever lived.” He went on: “One of the strangest natural proofs of the folly of hereditary right in kings is that nature disproves it, otherwise she would not so frequently turn it into ridicule, by giving  mankind an ass for a lion.” He called the monarch “the royal brute of England.”

When the British ruling class tried to arrest Paine, he fled to France where he was one of two foreigners elected to serve as a delegate in the National Convention set up after the French Revolution. He denounced the calls to execute Louis XVI. “He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression,” Paine said. “For if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.” Unchecked legislatures, he warned, could be as despotic as unchecked monarchs. When he returned to America from France, he condemned slavery and the wealth and privilege accumulated by the new ruling class, including George Washington, who had become the richest man in the country. Even though Paine had done more than any single figure to rouse the country to overthrow the British monarchy, he was turned into a pariah, especially by the press, and forgotten. He had served his usefulness. Six mourners attended his funeral, two of whom were Black.

You can watch my talk with Cornel West and Richard Wolff on Thomas Paine here.

There is a pathetic yearning among many in the U.S. and Britain to be linked in some tangential way to royalty. White British friends often have stories about ancestors that tie them to some obscure aristocrat. Donald Trump, who fashioned his own heraldic coat of arms, was obsessed with obtaining a state visit with the queen. This desire to be part of the club, or validated by the club, is a potent force the ruling class has no intention of giving up, even if hapless King Charles III, who along with his family treated his first wife Diana with contempt, makes a mess of it.” (-Chris Hedges)

“This idea that Democrats aren’t fascists is the biggest and most dangerous lie of all. When both parties have completely sold out the public and formed a corrupt merger between corporations and the state it means both parties and the entire political system are fascist.” (-Ryan Knight)

“The Democratic Party won’t even allow a vote on whether to stop taking dark money. The blatant corruption of the 2-party system by big money donors is why we need to build our own party.” (-Matt Hoh For Senate)

“Of course the US empire wanted this war. That’s why it knowingly provoked it and actively intervened to prevent peace from breaking out in the early days of the conflict. It’s been using this war to advance its Eurasian geostrategic interests at very little cost to itself.” (-Caitlin Johnstone)

“These folks are in your face with their agenda –  war profits and continued white world imperialist dominance. This right-wing neoliberal opportunist is just current face for that agenda.” (-Ajamu Baraka)

“The dark power of royalty. In 1971, the Chagos Islanders were expelled by the British to make way for a US base. This was made possible by a meeting of the Queen’s Privy Councillors (advisers) and approved in person by the Queen. Using the same power, Blair invaded Iraq in 2003.” (-John Pilger)

“Capitalism is based on wage slavery — doing something you don’t really love in order to survive. Basically most of us work 5 days a week in order to rent our freedom back on weekends. This is why many people are #QuietQuitting” (-Lee Camp)

“If you’re wondering why the DNC just refused to ban dark money it’s because Democrats took even more of it than Republicans in 2020. Remember this next time Democrats give their speeches about “saving democracy.” There is no democracy in the U.S. Both parties serve the oligarchy.” (-Ryan Knight)

“In Chile communists held a Sep. 11 march condemning the CIA coup and remembering the victims of the Pinochet dictatorship But they were attacked by masked provocateurs with knives, rocks, and sticks It’s unclear if they were fascists, cops, or anarchists.” (-Ben Norton)

“The American Dream never died. It never existed for most workers even in the best of economic times. Now it’s a cruel joke where 80 percent live one paycheck away from poverty, bankruptcy, homelessness or worse.” (-Danny Haiphong)

JULIAN COPE

first came to my attention via “World Shut Your Mouth” on 120 Minutes, he had been in the Teardrop Explodes and made a long series of very esoteric and farout psychedelic records, the whole Black Sheep crusade really reminded me of me and my old gang before we all shot off like hard cracked billiard balls in different directions. Real cool stuff. I wanna do it all again. Sundays are such a slow moving grind in this still hot dead end desert ghost ville, I almost hope my part time employer calls with some kooky chore-yesterday it was picking up sticks and moving piles of wooden sticks with rusty nails and floorboards and shit from one property to another and rolling some impossibly heavy cement planters full of dirt into a spider ridden garage. I’m so bored and restless on a day like today-of course, what I really wanna be doing is making new music, I put some signs up on a local billboard. Hard to recruit a ragged army from the half crazed skeletons and desert rats around here, but I keep on searchin’. I’m gonna buy the kid some drums once we get relocated. I just came back indoors from a long walk in the hot sun, ya know people ask me with how I cope with the monotony of such a rundown dead broke deadend trailer town, town. Photography, I guess. It’s always a sad thing when you bring the camera but forget the memory card. I take pictures of the river and rocks and flowers and clouds. My shirtless teen just informed me it is 9/11. Apparently twenty one days ago today my middle kid’s mom memorably first informed me she “did not want to be part of a couple”. I think I stuck around for another year after that still trying hopelessly to stay a part of my children’s lives, but sadly, it did not work out-she held all the cards and power, moved ’em cross country, bonded ’em to a long series of strangers and by the time I got out there, the younger one had mostly forgotten me-just another of her mom’s many suitor ex employees. So yeah 9/11 was an inside job. The war on terror was a big bullshit lie. There were no WMD’s and W later laughed about it. Rumsfeld had given a speech about missing trillions the day before. Art students in the basement, Lucky Silverstein, Prince Bandar, Marvin Bush, Cheney called off Norad. No wingspan in the Pentagon hole. All bullshit. I thought you knew. Figure out Building #7. Everything since has been more lies, fictions, propaganda, bullshit, made up puppet stars like Zelensky and Obama and AOC and fascism…with a handful of preassigned and vetted, controlled opposition, red carpet diversity muppets. Teen Beat celebrity pinup politicians. Marionettes. Just More Fuckin’ Endless Dick Cheney, Rebranded. Now…the daughter. UGH! Once upon a time I found myself doing some handy work for a wealthy rancher/airbandb heiress house hoarder who every time I was ever around her, she always mentioned “the patriarchy” as her way of deflecting from the fact that she holds all this surplus property and unearned power and excess privilege-it’s triggering for me cause I’ve had issues with these heiresses before-they won’t get off their daddy’s gravy train but they resent the power he has over their mom and sibling’s lives, so they transfer all those resentments and hostilities neatly over to their underling employees or tenants, particularly in Honkytopia, Oregon-Gender is Religion there. Wealthy rancher/airbandb heiress house hoarders always seem to gravitate towards some kinda new age religion that reassures them they deserve all their power, and a spa day, and “market value rent” even if it’s just residual karma from all their charitable acts in past lives. Don’t call them bossy-call them greedhead oppressor capitalists.

Remember when John Denver, Frank Zappa, Jello Biafra, Dee Snider, all those people got tied up in court and shit and had to go to Washington to fight for free speech? Since 9/11, the corporate monoploy/state media brainwash media has been so fucking crazy relentless, that people who call themselves “Progressives” and also, on the right, some so called “Patriots” all fuckin’ cheerlead for censorship and top down, uniparty, authoritarian, narrative control. That’s fuckedup. All you have to do is get some Karen to say some shit’s Offensive. The police state not only spies on, but controls the discussions on all social media platforms, they monopolize the new media just like they monopolized legacy media in 1996. Meanwhile, like Julian Cope, I also try to rally all the black sheep.

“The possible next NATO Secretary-General, Chrystia Freeland, is the granddaughter of a Nazi collaborator who recently displayed the banner of a Nazi-allied organization responsible for the mass murder of Jews and Poles. Only days ago, Chrystia Freeland was denigrating Canadian truckers as Nazis & imposing emergency law to crush their protest movement. But when Russian forces entered her family’s native Ukraine, she reached for the flag of the Nazi-allied UPA. (She’s since deleted this image)” (-Max Blumenthal)

“Remember when a swastika at Canada’s trucker protest became the focal point of media coverage? Apparently the deputy prime minister posing with the banner of Holocaust collaborators who slaughtered tens of thousands of Poles, Jews & Roma doesn’t inspire the same outrage.” (-Wyatt Reed)

“Bill Gates promoted and exported the “Monsanto model” of agriculture and helped trap farmers in debt slavery. If you think it’s a good idea to trust him on environmental issues and climate change, maybe re-visit his previous efforts to “green” the world.” (-Whitney Webb)

“The world according to Western imperialism: Vladimir Putin in power for two decades? Dictator! Xi Jinping in power for one decade: Dictator! The Queen in power for seventy years until her death?  Benevolent leadership over a democracy! There are 195 nations in the world. Only 22 of them haven’t been invaded by Britain since the institution of its colonial monarchy. Anyone surprised about the many who didn’t shed a tear over Queen Elizabeth’s death doesn’t know their history.” (-Danny Haiphong)

POISON HEART

Somebody seems to have stolen and relocated one of my kid’s semi-feral outdoor cats again and I have my suspicions it is probably an old grump with some mental health problems who lives nearby and has done that kind of thing before. He hates cats and loud kids and probably wants us to move, which, you know, we wouldn’t mind relocating at this point-ideally to some place more secluded with less OCD busybodies cussing at animals and trying to keep control over nature, wildlife, the whole terra firma at all times, because we’re not that wild about the changes we see happening in the neighborhood, with the developers putting up these real big, ugly, overnight McMansions hoping to quote “attract big California tech money”, and the cops and code enforcers and even a private drone company all being deployed by a corrupt city hall in bed with the shady developers to put the screws to the elderly home owners so they’ll be willing to sell cheap to the development swindlers. If we were more mobile, we’d already be gone, but ya know you can’t pay rent with two minimum wage incomes in this price gouge capitalist got mine, greedhead culture.

I remember thinking way back in the eighties how if I could only get a job and pay my own rent, I wouldn’t have to eat all that shit from the hate mob jealous cows of conformity, who hated anyone with principles, or style of their own, and forever felt obliged by Law to yell shit like, “Joey Ramone! and “Boy George!” whenever they saw me walking down the hallway. It just enraged all the morons that I wore a little hair product and hoop earrings and black smeared eye makeup. I thought that middle school shit would end when I finally turned 18 and the juvie authorities would have to leave me alone. I was wrong, middle school went on forever-pretty much everyone I knew as a kid, is basically just like they were back then-if they sucked up to anyone they thought was rich n popular in seventh grade, they are frequently still doing that shit in their fifties. If they were greedy hoarders who had a whole pack of unopened Marlboros but would rather smoke yours…if they were a deadbeat mooch who refused to ever wash a plate or pay rent in 1985, oftentimes, they’re still like that when approaching retirement age. If they only hung around you for access to girls and beer or sponging up the fine ideas, don’t expect they became more capable of being respectful, kind, loyal, or loving in their old age. I’m STILL that hated Joey Ramone from the bad part of town that aint about courtin’ favor with those dorks on the hill. Fuck those people. I don’t wanna be like the gentrification tv watchers. Don’t need no makeover, aint trying to be the Hot Topic or become Urban Outfitted, you dig? Aint my job to obey the squares and copycat clones cause you think they’re somehow second or third hand fake famous or vaguely associated with some kind of wealth or VIP privilege. I don’t even like those people. Certainly not their absolutely shite, redundant, embarrassingly corny joke bands. One of those suburbanized hipster fauxpunks compared a 45 I made 24 years ago to “Halfway To Sanity” era Ramones like that was supposedly this devastating putdown. I love all that stuff. Dee Dee was important. Joey, too, all of ’em. I was not that into CJ, but he helped ’em soldier on, so, yaknow God Bless Us, Every Cretin. Yeah I’m still a Ramone, at heart. I ranaway to NYC as a kid and all those guys and Lou Reed and Quentin Crisp and Stiv and Cheetah and Warhol and Haring and Basquait were all still around-ya know? the world was just a much groovier place, before the ruling class, inside job billionaires like Chertoff and Kerry and Bloomberg and Giulianis kicked all the poor people out of the once cool cities and tried to force their dumb rich kids on us, like ya know-The Strokes and Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. No thanks. Breaks my heart the Ramones all felt like bitter, and unsuccessful before they died, in spite of touring the world and getting to make all those great records just cause they never made ya know like Bruce Springsteen money, but they gave so much strength and inspiration to so many people. You won’t see their kind get access to the mainstream airwaves, probably ever again. Just more bullshit fake rich people making bullshit fake music, that says nothing, means nothing, makes no difference, at all-just puts you to sleep. I’m so sick of all the fucking sucky bullshit muzak and dumbshit motherfuckers, who can’t tell the difference, anyway. I mean, I was never even really into like, Rancid, or D-Generation, but they suddenly seem like The Beatles and The Stones compared to the shit they try to force on us now. Back in the eighties Joey was still like throwing these real cool Acid Glitter Trashball Extravaganzas in NYC with all star lineups like Debbie Harry, Alison Gordy, Mike Monroe’s Blonde & Blue, Stevie Klasson and the Oddbalss, NYC punk heroes galore! Man those crazy hoo haw spontaneous shindigs inspired by own infamously epic all night house parties way back at our old bandhouse, Paradise Lost where people would come from three different states on the weekends to perform, jam, collaborate and sometimes the hootenannies might last for weeks. Joey just had so much heart-even when he was dyin’-his last record was called. “Don’t Worry About Me”! Ya know? Whenever I get real depressed, I watch like, Dee Dee interviews on Youtube…maybe some Kid Creole, Big Audio Dynamite and Zapp…”I Believe In Miracles” has carried this old jetboy through an awful lot of hardships and heartaches over the years, I’ll tell you that. “Poison Heart” says it all!

“Hey, you learn something new everyday. I just learned today from CNN that the notion of the U.S. as the global hegemon is part of the Russia “disinformation” campaign. The over 800 U.S. bases & trillion dollar military spending are in place to enforce global freedom. Thanks CNN.” (-Ajamu Baraka)

“Americans: drinkable water please US government: Sorry did you say send billions of dollars worth of weapons to Ukraine and Taiwan? Americans: no, drinkable water US government: Alright, you drive a hard bargain but here’s billions of dollars of weapons for Ukraine and Taiwan.” (-Caitlin Johnstone)

“On September 11th, 2001 the U.S. exploited attacks on the World Trade Center that killed several thousand to spend trillions on endless war that have murdered millions and erected the most expansive surveillance state in human history. This is the legacy of the War on Terror.” (-Danny Haiphong)

“Increasingly in cities across Europe the people are heading to the streets in response to the shifting of the cost of the Ukrainian adventure on to the working classes. But in the U.S. where the liberal/left has subordinated itself to the agenda of the neoliberal right – silence.” (-Ajamu Baraka)

“Liz Truss will be the next British prime minister. She told a town hall recently that she’s ‘ready’ to launch a nuclear war.” (-Dave Decamp)

“BREAKING: The Biden administration has announced a $3 billion package to Jackson, Mississippi to fund massive repairs and updates to water infrastructure. Just kidding. That money is going to weapons for Ukraine.” (-Danny Haiphong)

“$21 TRILLION of unaccounted-for “adjustments” by the DOD while we’ve been in Afghanistan. That’s enough to end world hunger for 700 YEARS!” (-Lee Camp)

“The US empire’s Venezuelan coup puppet Juan Guaidó is honoring Queen Elizabeth and thanking the British empire for supporting him in his coup attempt against Venezuela’s actual, elected government” (-Ben Norton)

“I feel like we don’t talk enough about the fact that a 2019 study commissioned by the US Army found that the US could advance its geostrategic interests in Eurasia by baiting Russia into overextending itself in wars against US proxies in Ukraine and elsewhere.” (-Caitlin Johnstone)

KISS DOLLS

Yeah we sat through like three and a half ours of KISS last night. As usual, a tightly controlled, robotic Gene n Paul narrative about how everybody just loves Eric and Tommy their compliant and proficient substitute stand-ins for Peter and Ace. Only missteps they ever admit are Gene’s “ego trip”, the “Phantom…” clunker that was supposed to be “Star Wars Meets A Hard Day’s Night”, and the ice skater clothes and generic power ballads of the Bon Jovi era. Did you hear Paul’s awful Amerikkkan idol garbage side project FM Station or whatever it was? Just HORRIBLE. I did appreciate how they paid honest tribute to the influence of the NY Dolls even if the last word on the subject was Paul insisting KISS blew them away musically. Lots of people disagree. If their primary statement, their manifesto was “rocknroll all night and party everyday”, how ya gonna be mad at Ace and Peter for livin’ it? Gene probably liked that “Nookie” song, what he cares about is groupies and merchandising, cashing in. I mean he told his son Nick not to work on his own car-that’s a job for the little people. So yeah, basically you already know the story-Gene’s a dick, but him and Doc McGhee are very good at making big bucks, they do admit that their cokehead eraly collaborators Ezrin and Aucoin were at least as fucked up as Ace and Peter and are probably equally responsible for all their early successes-Paul’s a lovable, mostly affable cartoon character who overcame the odds and fought his way to the top but basically is Gene’s real wife, he acts like Edith to Gene’s Archie Bunker. To Gene’s credit, I find summa their toys and swag more entertaining than much of their latter day music and from watching his old tv show, it sems clear that the guy loves his family, if not Ace and Peter. ACE is the rocknollingest motherfucker, I’ve said it from day one, maybe your preferred guitar player knows more fancy scales but ACE’S GUITAR SHOOTS FIREBALLS! Peter Chris sounds like a demanding primadonna sometimes with the Andy Summers like touring demands, but I’m one of those old dudes who only cares about the original KISS, whatever their merchandise juggernaut big machine, money printing operations look like now, same with GUNS N ROSES. They might have super fame and stadiums full of commercial country or sports fans who don’t even like real rocknroll, who never heard of Steven Adler, bot none of these rich guys in all the wigs with the employee ringer bands write good songs now. Did you hear that “Absurd” song Guns N Roses put out, trying to sound like UK Subs? Just was not very good, was it? Kinda thing we all mighta wrote in the basement circa 87, fake English accent and everything. Not interested in KISS without Ace Frehley and Peter Criss and I’m not interested in Guns N Roses without Steven and Izzy, yes I know they are all superfamous money making capitalist hundred dollar t shirt peddlers, but I’m still into bands having good songs. I probably heard “Sweet Child” enough for a lifetime. IZZY or bust. Funny thing about most Murkkkans is how we don’t really give a fuck about originality, artistry or sincerity or talent or truth or soul. Murkkkans were all trained from birth to unconditionally worship wealth and power-whether that is the evil Davos Billionaires, or John Gotti, some monarch or Saudi despot, some no talent plagiarist imitators, people just follow the whiff of moolah. None more so than Moneybags Gene. His personal logo is even a dollar sign. At least they provided some hardworking entertainment value way back in the 70’s-there is nothing, now, rocknroll wise, in the corporate media but that illuminati pop garbage. Blink 182, Dave Grohl. Ick.

“In nearly 200 years of genocidal colonialism, the British empire stole $45 trillion in wealth from India (17 times more than UK GDP), killing millions The UK monarchy, Queen Elizabeth, the royal family are simply symbols of murder, exploitation, and theft.” (-Ben Norton)

“In Syria, the White Helmets have cooperated with sectarian death squads and operated exclusively in their territory. A top Al-Qaeda leader praised the White Helmets as “hidden soldiers.” The OPCW enlisted these hidden soldiers as its field team.” (-Aaron Mate’)

“Fresh off his appearance at Wall Street, where he pitched corporations on the plunder of his country’s assets, Zelensky will appear at a conference of arms makers in Texas to present his country’s war as a fantastic business opportunity. #SlavaRaytheon” (-Max Blumenthal)

“The actual authoritarian cults of personality are Western capitalist imperialist regimes, which claim to be “democracies” but force their populations to love the symbol of an unelected hereditary monarch while their societies are truly governed by billionaire capitalist oligarchs.” (-Ben Norton)

“Maybe the country that is the threat to the world is the one with damn near 1000 military bases.” (-Black In The Empire)

BLEEDING HEART GRAFFITI

One of the last records that I remember reached any kind of mainstream audience at all that still had a lotta heart and soul and rocked was the underrated self titled CULT lp that came out around the same time I made the foolish mistake of moving back to the midwest hoping to peacefully co parent with my oldest kid’s baby mama. I shoulda known better, I never fit in in the midwest and can’t stand the preppie privatee school motherfuckers and extra large frat bros who ran everything back there. But Ian and Billy were still saying shit that was real and true even in the godless grunge years.

“Beyond Good & Evil” was the cd me and my old sideman Nasty Bastard were blaring as we were howling down the highway, goin’ back to Boston to record at our old pop pal’s studio when the van naturally broke down in the middle of nowhere but some old farmer very kindly brought us some beer and canvas chairs and said we could feel free to camp overnight and swim in his pond. A friend of Nasty’s put me on a bus and took the van in for repairs that took forever, so while he was tied up fixing the van, I was able to record maybe four or five songs with the rest of our old lineup but we coulda-shoulda-woulda accomplished so much more had Nasty been with me for the second and third parts of that trip. I got about two good songs out of the whole escapade. A couple of those tunes were compared by Ringo Kidd to Nikki Sudden which is a high compliment in my world. “It’s just the truth in your eyes…” Both mine and Nasty’s ex wives dumped us after that failed mission to record our album that was supposed to be called “Born Again To Lose”. Crazy world. I still standby almost all our old songs from that era. Always haunted by the what if…’s…What if we would’ve finished those records, what if fans of say, Black Halos and The Hangmen and Jim Jones Revue got to hear those old songs fully fleshed out, etc etc It’s the stuff of a whole lotta heartbreak and tears.

 REV. PAUL S. CUNNINGHAM

I guess I made friends with the brimstone preachin’ cowboy Rev. years ago on social media and we’ve been keeping in touch for a long time now, we got a lot in common, really. I’ve always loved the real original, stand alone voices from the wilderness, he don’t really sound like no one but himself which is pretty fuckin’ cool if you ask me. Musically speaking, I guess there are some glints of Jo Dog’s elegant bluesy leads from way back in the “Graveyard Of Empty Bottles era”. I love the pianos on “Pictures & Gasoline”. Very deep and soulful cat, insanely talented. Do you like the Rolling Stones or Tom Waits? Like I told somebody in an e-mail, this is haunted and inspired songwriting. “Brothers Of The Darkness” is a gunfighter ballad or trail song from the bottom of the black bottle. I’m just gonna keep talkin’ about this character’s tunes cause I recognize him as one of the most remarkably gifted of my generations’ outlaw colleagues. That guitar solo in “Brothers Of The Darkness” is a thing of real subtle and profound beauty. His slide guitar playing is so Stonesy and the piano is beautiful.

President Barack Obama weaponized the Espionage Act to prosecute those who provided classified information to the press. The Obama White House, whose assault on civil liberties was worse than those of the Bush administration, used the 1917 Act, designed to prosecute spies, against eight people who leaked information to the media including — Edward SnowdenThomas Drake, Chelsea Manning, Jeffrey Sterling and John Kiriakou, who spent two-and-a-half years in prison for exposing the routine torture of suspects held in black sites.

Also under The Espionage Act, Joshua Schulte, a former CIA software engineer, was convicted on July 13 of the so-called Vault 7 leak, published by WikiLeaks in 2017, which revealed how the C.I.A. hacked Apple and Android smartphones and turned internet-connected televisions into listening devices. He faces up to 80 years in prison. Assange — although he is a publisher and not a U.S. citizen, and WikiLeaks is not a U.S.-based publication, was indicted by the Trump administration under the Act

Obama used the Espionage Act against those who provided information to the media more than all previous administrations combined.

Chris Hedges: When the Just Go to Prison – Consortium News

HARLOT

My first imaginary band consisted of me, and about four other middle school heavy metal hoodlums I met in the special needs behavioral classroom named Deke, Dustin, his older brother “Don’t Fuck With…” Danny who was like my main protector back then;  J.R. who was also sometimes known as “The Rat”-not because he snitched on anybody but he had one of those halfassed Joe Dirt mustaches and wore a satin jacket from Spencer Gifts in the mall with the RATT logo on the back of it, him n Deke were inseparable chainsmoker metalheads, like Bill N Ted-twin Spicolis talking about the Michael Schenker Group and Gary Moore, Carlos Cavazo and Warren Dimartini. They were both like deedle deedle guitar heroes in training. I was mostly into like Adam Ant, Culture Club, Prince and Duran Duran who they thought were gay, and I wore glasses which were a real no-no in the Future Villain Bands of young Amurkkka. Also, Deke probably wanted a better looking blonde haired guy with a Robert Plant or Bruce Dickinson vocal range. There was some older guy in town like that, I think he wanted to join like, the older rich kid dickhead bully cover band who played like KISS and Zeppelin and stuff, I think they were called Attack? Anyways, it was us, and sometimes, a kid in a Member’s Only jacket named Chris, who was the school psychiatrist’s son but his dad refused to buy him drums, Dustin was forbidden from hanging out with me or Dekan and used to have to change his clothes on the bus-he wanted to wear rebellious spiked bracelets and checkered Vans and parachute pants and black concert t shirts like the rest of us, but was forced to wear the preppie pink Izods that were the unofficial school uniform at the rich white suburbia school we went to. Mostly we walked around on the dirt trails, went to Music Land to look at records, loitered in front of the arcade, smoked Marlboros, sneered a lot. Dekan impressed everybody with learning “Eruption” and “Crazy Train” before the older rich and popular kids did. We played covers mostly, like “Livin’ After Midnight” and “Round And Round” and “Aint Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” out there at the Ross family, ranch style home when the parents were gone. Oh yeah, then we brought in Dave, cause Dustin and Dan were not allowed to come around that often and always got in some kinda trouble if they did. Dan had to sneak his guitar out of the house, he ran a stolen BMX chop shop in my basement. Those guys came from these strict military families that wanted them to hunt, and gave ’em guns and crossbows, but did not like them making music, cutting and pasting together homemade xerox art, anti-school fanzines with grotesque caricatures of admin and coaches and wrestling team dickheads, or painting crazy logos on t shirts. I wore feather earrings, string ties, homemade punk shirts, painted on jeans, was always like crazy gluing broken bits of mirror onto my suitjacket lapels, you know like an even lower budget Duckie from “Pretty In Pink”. Total new wave loser with the paisley suspenders and old man dress shoes. You probably already heard the one about how I told the army recruiter my career goal was the become the male Patti Smith. You shoulda seen the horror and dismay on the faces of the army guys when they saw my big Pegasus Trapper Keeper overflowing with pinups from Smash Hits magazine of Iggy and Ziggy and Flesh for Lulu and Pete Burns and Marilyn and Boy George and all that New Romantic Blitz Club & Batcave shit. I was always being after school detained, paddled, Saturday Schooled, or suspended, or having to get pink notes signed by my parents for dress code infractions, it was really the eyeliner they were mostly just nuts over. You know that’s when I discovered “Scary Monsters & Super Creeps” and “Hunky Dory” and “Ziggy Stardust” and had less and less patience for those fucking authoritarians who worked so hard to belittle me and mock all my creative endeavors and hassle me all the time. I got in trouble for drawing Flesh for Lulu and Cure logos in my textbooks, they sent me to bible school, detention all, juvenile probation, diversion, curfews, special extra dresscodes, haircuts, the whole nightmare, just Dr. Phil’d me for years on fucking end. When I got contacts, that’s when it ALL CHANGED. Girls. More than a couple, more than a few. Girls galore. Deke looked like a cross between Billy Idol and Colin from GBH, as we got older-his mom gave him some kinda flash sports car and he started dating a goth chick named Diane, who’s only friend was my goth girlfriend, Steffani. We were already drifting apart. They were almost all recruited into the military at 18. We never even got anything really off the ground, but that was where it all starts, guys in jean jackets with little Billy Idol and Van Halen and Guns N Roses and Hanoi Rocks buttons and black leather jackets hanging around each other, listening to Ozzy and Van Halen and saying they’re a band.

VAIN DAMAGE

Me and Dave stuck together and eventually found some other guys. First we got this popular kid who was older-him and me were like the town’s token new wavers-but he was a star for being a DJ and was really good looking, whereas I was like a punching bag for being strange and really not so good looking. That guy showed up at my apartment one day with a scarf on and a Dogs D’Amour record and a big bottle of Jack Daniels and he was in. He loved INXS and Duran Duran and Prince and Circus Of Power and Mother Love Bone and played with us for about a year and a half, but then he left the band to play with all these guitar teacher, mainstream Journey type guys, who had real equipment, and he became the singer of Who’s Drivin’, a lame top 40 cover band that played at a pizza place called Parrason’s in the mall. So we had to find a replacement for him. The unlikely next bassist was sortof a jock, but not really, he played sports but did not have the same dumbfuck sensibility the others did-he hung around some guys who weren’t really rednecks and weren’t really jocks, they were like the John Goodman character on that sit-com, LARGE men who drank beer and played poker. Bowling team type of personalities. He became our bassplayer. We drank a lot of beer together and I got him into the Deadboys and Iggy. Kid from Catholic school marching band came in on drums, an older guy from a nearby town was the second guitar player and he knew all about old music so we started sponging up all kindsa diverse new influences from his elaborate closet filled with records. Bands we’d never heard of back then, like Theater Of Hate and The Fast. I had become obsessed with Hanoi Rocks and Generation X by then. Those characters really imprinted on my damaged teen psyche. I kinda never got over any of ’em. Some of ’em are dead now, it’s really heartbreaking.

MORE ON DEADEND BANDS IN NOWHERE TOWNS

I had these metalhead friends named Ron n Kelly, they were troubled youth. They were both really into horror movies, combat boots, dead cats, serial killers, the occult, anything offensive or shocking to squares and prudes. Remember that cat from “Bloom County” comic strips-Bill the Cat? We all used to draw him on our school folders and shit. We used to ride around in Kelly’s shitty hatchback car with all the stupid bumper stickers on the back, playing WASP, really loud. I remember them liking Dangerous Toys and Alice Cooper, too. They were super psyched when they got a copy of that old Charles Manson record, “Lie” from a record store in Columbus. You know those really dumb looking, whole forearm spiked leather bracelets some death rockers used to wear? That was Kelly, and the River’s Edge trailer park vermin obligatory army surplus coat with heavy metal pins on it and pentagrams drawn with black sharpie that reeked of cigarettes and reefer from across the street. Ron was a bit more sensitive cause his mom was gone, he was a painter, painted big portraits, my mom still has one he did of me in a graveyard. Ron also got a guitar and dyed his hair black like ours and attempted to join one of our many punkroll garage ruckus beer bands. We were both really into that first L.A. Guns record back then and I remember very vividly jamming to “One More Reason” and “Electric Gypsy” with him up in my infamous purple apartment while drinking 12 packs of Budweiser, back in the day. We had a big poster of the Hendrix experience in one room, a big poster of Bowie‘s “Aladdin Sane” in the other, a vintage mirror with pink flamingos from my grandmother’s basement that sadly got broken, a zebra print chair, a stinky couch and a boombox and a record player. We also had that first White Zombie lp borrowed from a grumpy older dude down the hall. They were a little bit like Beavis and Butthead, like Kelly always sorta picked on Ron, and for some reason, Ron being a sweet natured, good egg, he just kinda took it. I think Kelly later ended up goin’ out with my witchy death rock girlfriend for awhile. He eventually had a mohawk after graduation and a pet rat and was actually pretty fuckin’ radical for that town, back then. Poor Ron, he got better and better as an artist and guitarist, but like so many of our blue collar brothers raised by one parent in the deadend Midwest, he was fed into the military by the system. He was one of the few who joined the army who did not seem to regret it, he learned some technical photography skills and now, he has his own thriving adult-world, commercial photography business with his wife, God bless him.

Penelope Spheeris mighta intended her “Decline” movies as cautionary tales, but when me and my friends watched them, it just made us wanna relocate to Hollywood. We could all identify with Guns N Roses and Faster Pussycat, esp. “Out To Get Me, they were just like us. Burntout little Hanoi Rocks fans. We were all a little bit punk and a little bit metal, there really was no punk scene where we came from, just some misfit kids who liked Suicidal Tendencies and The Dils and New Order and those first two Motley Crue records. I don’t know what happened to Kelly but it usually went bad for anybody who stayed in that town. Several of my teenage new wave friends killed themselves, or were murdered there. The town screws really went out of their way to bootcamp and humiliate me until I had no real choice but to flee that part of the country-they just never let up, once they get you on their list. It was the anti-rock PMRC era, and the rich suburbanite sports moms were hysterical about my corrupting, corrosive new wave influence upon their lily-white children. I gave everybody books and records and shit. At least one friend who made in big in straight society has said I was a crucial part of that. When I stupidly returned to that part of the country years later, it was the same exact shit, all over again. You can not change that fortunate son ruling class sports hierarchy in the flyover states. The Kendoll rich boys in their big white mama mansions will always be above the law celebrities, and the working-class weirdos will always be targets of the screws. Of course, the ones who got the hall pass from the ruling class, or who were assimilated into the corrupt sham never even wanna know the truth of how things are for their “uneducated” or “dysfunctional” former peers, but I saw how that injustice system broke more than a few of my allies. The ones who weren’t herded into the marines or married into wealth went through a never ending gauntlet of multi-generational alcoholism and depression, factory life hell, probation, piss tests, DUI’s, 12 steps, psych ward, holy roller churches, back to the assembly line, sixteen hour days, meltdowns, pressure, judgement, evictions, crackpipe, freakout, suicide. Of what survivors remain, I’m not really in touch with any of ’em. I think a couple might still have some kinda Louie Louie Wild Thing Animal House garage band. None of ’em seem at all activated or radicalized. Probably one or two of ’em say they Dislike Trump, that’s as punk as they get, but are conspicuously silent when Biden does all the exact same shit, caging kids, sucking up to Israel and the Saudis, drug war, gutting social safety nets and just blaming it on rotating villains. Censoring the internet, escalating the warpig provocations. I’m still anti war, anti racist, anti fascist, pro free speech, pro working class, pro creativity, pro human rights. I get a sad pang inside when I think about my lost lads who are dead now.

They were basically hounded into the grave by the same system everybody pretends is so fair and peachy keen, s’long as they get to keep their own special-class privileges.

I know the college safespace shitlibs cancelled Dr. Seuss, like they do everything in their cloistered elitist shitlib feelings, special preference gentrification world, but he got it all right on the money with the Starbellied Sneetches. The same exact people who retroactively disapproved his racist WW2 era cartoons, they are all jumpin’ up n down like drunk Buckeyes fans cheering for Zelensky, blaming all their personal shit and inflation on “RUSSIANS!” The Republikkkans been similarly trained to Blame China. They keep saying China took our money or China took our jobs, when in fact, Wall Street stuffed shirts gleefully sent all the manufacturing to Chinese sweat shops and Murkkka never even paid ’em what they are owed, so now the Murkkkans want war on everybody-even their own people Twitter cop accused of pre crime or Wrongthink. All madness, all the time, and Israel wants to steal Iran. End the wars. Rich people suck.

The Grayzone – Investigative journalism on empire

Here’s one more band I totally loved back in 89, that last year before I left town. We used to cover this song.

Michael Franano (sugarbuzzmagazine.com)

IDOLS AND DOLLS

I’m on a different schedule than my family so I’m probably spending too many hours alone everyday which always kinda causes me to drift back into the past since any kind of groovy future was stolen by the billionaires and neo-cons. Had a friend named Mike Mindless, he sadly is dead (RIP) but anyways he was really into alot of the same stuff as me-Misfits, Deadboys, NY Dolls, Mexican wrestling and comic books and thrift store retro black velvet painting type garbage and like Godzilla flea market subculture. He was also kindof a progressive activist, maybe not as radical leftist as I was, but he understood how we were all being played by the good cop/bad cop bullshit culture war duopoly. Mike had so many good stories about kinda roadieing for the Deadboys and shit. He had a band called The Skulls and my older guitarplayer, BAM, friend used to buy all the $1 vinyl from the cutout bins and we played that record to death and also, “Keeping Up With The Joneses” and the Little Kings. Man, the eighties had such a cool underground scene, you know? NYC was still like a bombed out Mad Max counterculture anarchist paradise! You could just hangout in the park all day and meet cool people. Hollywood had that whole goth and cowpunk scene with The Gun Club and Horseheads and we used to read all those punk magazines from the coasts and dream of relocating there and signing to Slash records. Many of my local pals from that horrible town were less hated and maligned than I was, like a couple of my friends had brothers who were jocks, or mainstream popular status quo catholic school girlfriends, or just fit in, more than I did because they did not wear black leather pants or makeup and shit. It took them longer to wanna leave that place. We did road trips whenever we could in these rundown, unreliable vehicles we bought cheap from Little Ceasers delivery guys from small farm towns who all went to this mechanic trade school. Also, one of my heavy metal girlfriends, the female bassist of a Metallica covers band, her mom’s boyfriend ran the speed parts shop. I remember when we got that Smack cassette from an Indianapolis record store. That really was a major moment that totally electrified me. That singer and that sound, was at once urgent and haunting-kinda goth, kinda glam, little bit punk and as Viv on “The Young Ones” jacket said, “very metal”. I knew that was what I wanted to do. Like I said, summa my collaborators were more orthodox, one guy was into like, the Chili Peppers, one guy was into Minor Threat and Fugazi. I think my best pal Dave was still really into Steve Vai and just discovering that first Peter Murphy record, “Love Hysteria”, which we all thought was pretty fantastic. The older geezer down the hall was digging Big Black and the Amphetamine records bands. All I knew was I wanted to get the fuck outta that place. Groups of older jocks would follow me outta the mall, ya know, and knock the Icee outta my hand, knock me on the pavement, “fag! fag!” It was old hat by then, I’d been sorta traumatized by these same suburban assholes since the fourth grade. I was really getting sick of it. Some of those other guys liked to talk about being some kinda hooligan street gang tough guys, but some of ’em RAN anytime they saw my usual wouldbe assailants. Anytime I set foot out in the public eye, these brainless karate kid fuckers in the rising sun muscle shirts and big boofy Bon Jovi hair would stop their Transmaros and get out to chase me around or insult or assault or otherwise slander, smear and intimidate me, it was becoming real psychologically torturous, but my more popular friends with like the pretty relatives and shit, just did not get it, the desiore I had to escape, cause they weren’t really sharing the same experience. I hated those fratboys. I did not want to win their acceptance or learn how to fit in with them, which was the main diff between me and summa my former bandmates. I wanted to runaway to California and meet The Ringling Sisters. I wrote letters to people I found in the classifieds of “Maximum Rocknroll” and “Flipside” magazine. I had a lotta pen pals from outta state-we’d write each other pained letters about our outcast status as weirdo punks from nowhere places, all us no ones making crazy xerox art and trading heartfelt compilation tapes. “Psychocandy” was a real big influence. Then, “Darklands” came out and made us want to write better songs that were more introspective and melodic instead of just loud fast complaining about the juvenile authorities, dummy sports people, Reagan, the malls, and Tipper Gore.

JOHN DISSED

If you aint already hip to his stuff, you need to checkout this guy, John Dissed, he’s sort of a modern day Billy Bragg.

LOW LIFE

Yeah you know, me and all my friends liked The Smiths and The Cure and Echo and Sisters Of Mercy and all that stuff, but FOR YEARS, this New Order record was such a big part of our teen subculture, it would be difficult to overstate it’s importance, ya know when they threw me into that cold cement solitary confinement closet at J.D.C., it was playing in my mind from start to finish. When I was alone at various older people’s apartments in NYC running up phone bills and eternally missing and mooning and swooning over some beautiful blonde first crush Smiths chick, this was always playing in the background and in our hearts. “Oh how I cannot bear the thought of you…” I’m sentimental about all those kids and all that music.

“Westerners say “In that tyrannical regime over there they’re not even allowed to criticize their government!” Okay, but at least they’re allowed to know who their government IS. They get to know who’s calling the shots in their country. In that sense they’re freer than you are.” (-Cait Johnstone)

JOHNNY THUNDERS MEMORIAL, ENTER THE WORLD FAMOUS MISTER RATBOY

I met Ratboy at the Thunders memorial and we became fast friends, we even had a band for a minute and a half, in some low rent rehearsal space in alphabet city he played, I sang, his Piss Factory ex wife played bass and so did a French guy I think and a drummer who may have been from The Lunachicks. Then he got Chris Barry and I went back to Boston and did the Imitations who became The Bastards. Jim Rinn just found some old basement demotapes of me and The Bastards from back then that were shocking to hear after so many years have passed. But Yeah, both Motorcycle Boy and Pillbox had a huge impact on me and all my closest friends. I loved everything about both of those bands. I learned so much from Chris Barry and Ratboy, they will always have a special place in my heart.

THE NYMPHS

Another band I was really into were The Nymphs, it felt like Inger Lorre was a real kindred spirit, we were both into the same kinda vibes. And hats. and feathers.

James Stevenson “The Shape Of Things To Come”

.theshapeofthings…Whatever you may think of James Stevenson’s gorgeous wife, you have to admit he is one of the coolest guitar players in the world and plays in almost everyone of the best enduring bands. You know how drummer Danny Fury played in Lords Of The New Church, Rogue Male, Anita Chellemah, Dogs D’Amour, Sham 69, Vain, and TANGO PIRATES??? Similarly, James Stevenson’s played in Chelsea, Generation X, Gene Loves Jezebel, The Alarm, Glen Matlock & The Philistines, and the International Swingers.
He’s made a name for himself as a writer with a book and many contributions to professional guitar magazines under his belt. This E.P. is a promotional teaser designed to energize the worldwide fanbase already eagerly anticipating his forthcoming full-length, entitled, “EVERYTHING’S GETTING CLOSER TO BEING OVER”. It’s slick, world-class rocknroll reminiscent of Duran Duran, Power Station, Psychedelic Furs, or even Mick Jagger’s better solo albums.
I wish I knew someone in my hometown who still played guitar like this, I’d start a band of my own with them. It’s dark, swanky, and ripples with the esteemed talents of Stevenson and friends, an all star cast of pros including various former members of Spandau Ballet and the Sex Pistols. The guitars are awesome, in league with Mick Ronson, Billy Duffy, K Bombay, Derwood Andrews. Reminds me of living in NYC in the big 80’s, walking down 8th Street in the dawn’s early light. Beautiful vocals, he’s backed by the Sex Pistellettes-Maggi Ronson, Elizabeth Westwood, and Tracie Hunter. He’s effin great at what he does, if you like flawless, epic glam rock ala Generation X and Mott The Hoople, you’re sure to love “Suzi’s Problem” with it’s hypnotic and decadent guitar playing reminiscent of all your faves from the Cult to Billy Idol. This lot are members of the last class of real rocknroll dynamos who are still able to make a living performing and generating beautiful music for the masses. I duff my hat to all of ’em. Fantastic. I think he’s currently on tour with International Swingers. Catch ’em live when they play your town!/Anguish Young.
