So my good friends, all my brothers and sisters and friends of the revolution, um, it’ll be awhile before I can probably pen anything significant about my mentor brother hero, Cheetah Chrome, it’s been about four days, the first two was disassociative trama splitting, overwhelming stages of grief, uncontrollable non stop tears while trying to process crass negativity from some mutual associates. Please keep Anna and Rogan O’Connor in your prayers. I spent twelve hours in the emergency room last night, cat scans, MRI’s, blood draws, shots, and missed a shrink appointment with my CPTSD/BPD lady, can’t really function so well. It’s a difficult adjustment. I dont know where my daughter is, all my kids are scattered in different states, and aint keepin’ in touch with Papa Kin, I was already in grief counseling, its all so fucked, because when my stress goes above seven, my brain goes offline. I lost like eight good friends to death in the past two years, so the psychologically impaired and broken old man down the road aint fairin’ so well, ever since my injury and the herniated discs and degenerative spinal disorder kinda triggered all the trauma from my violence soaked and abandonment bruised past, I can’t always reason or remember, my life has been a long dramatic procession of sad goodbyes. I’m having all day and all night involuntary glitches and spasms whenever there’s a loud noise. I cant find anything, like my phone or my vape, everything takes about five times to work. The non stop drives outta town to doctors for referrals and not always forthcoming pain relief are all too much. My utterly ruined central nervous sytem keeps shutting me down and I can only stand up for about two hours a day. I got a big stabbing pain in the middle of my back right now in addition to all the lower back pain. I’m not supposed to lift or bend at all. Happy trails to you, until we meet again. High fivin’ ya, head nodding, and a few hell yeahs and a couple laughs and a couple ‘a sighs as I read along. How you been feeling? How are you getting on lately? Hope you are doing alright. Sending some positive energy and light your way.
I’m heading out to Nashville next week. I was going mainly to attend AmericanaFest conference and to meet up with my buddy Scot Sax (we wrote a song together) and maybe try to meet other cool songwriters and underground rockers / writers. He surprised me and said if I find a bass player and book a show that he would play drums for me. I thought fuck yeah, I can’t turn that down!
Scot was in the 90’s Philly powerpop band Wanderlust. I took a chance and got their album in 1994 through the Columbia House mail order and loved it! I’ve kinda followed his career since then. We both played a couple of those Poptopia / Pop Overthrow shows around town between ’95 – ’98, and I always wanted to link up with him, so I’m totally stoked.
Another friend joining me is Rhoades D’Ablo on co-lead guitar, he used to be in the 80’s L.A. band Mystery Girls, who I loved and used to go see, The Zeros played a few show with them, too. Rhoades was the lead singer of the band and he always reminded me of Stiv Bators. He’s been a guitar play though all these years and is gonna bring some Honeymann Scott / Johnny Marr meets Thunders rock n roll to the show.
I had to make a few calls around to find a rock bass player, and Man, there was some duds out there! My buddy Tobin introduced me to a great bass player named Ponyboy Matt Curtis, and when I saw his photo I was so relieved! Those guys both play with Tuk Smith & The Restless Hearts. They are opening for Cheap Trick in Michigan tonight as we speak. I know Tuk from when Cold Blue Rebels toured with The Biters and Wednesday 13. I’m excited to have Matt on bass for the night! It’s gonna be a loose and dirty rock n roll power poppin’ time. We only have one rehearsal before the show so keep your fingers crossed it goes alright for us. This whole gig is just brimming with edge of your seat energy, i can’t wait!
