I live in the desert where the wind is crazy and a constant reminder of how everything just blows away. I remember how I used to sit on a barstool at the lameass grunge bar having coffee or hell sometimes, well whiskey for breakfast before all the hipster middle class indie rock poseurs would showup and that semi-hypnotic “One Headdlight” song would always be playing on VH1. Kinda bummed out about that Wallflowers guitarist Michael Ward’s death. He was just a few years older than me. I thought they were an exceptional pop band in the mostly godawful fake alternative/grunge era, they had some powerful songs that remind me of lost loved ones. Rest In peace. When I first grabbed their first album promo outta the free shelf at Tower records, there wasn’t any big picture on the cover advertising “Dylan’s Kid”, just like, a headless group photo, ya know, and I liked them immediately, they reminded me of like early Goo Goo Dolls and Jacobites and Snatches Of Pink and I loved the name of the band-lovely. First song I recall liking by them was “Asleep At The Wheel”, which I will post below, but man I’m still haunted by that line about “cemetary trees”. I’m sitting at a picture window looking at plastic bags swirling past and the Xmas ornaments and windchimes blowing in my perfect tree outside. Of course it’s not really my tree, but while I’m here, I’ve gotten appreciative of the nature that surrounds us. Though it keeps enveloping people and places I thought I knew. I wrote some pretty good songs about that but you know if you are working class, or mired in deep poverty, really, nobody cares and nobody remembers, all those gatekeeper Barbie Dreamhouse assholes ever wanna know about you is have you clocked in yet and why aren’t you scrubbing. You gotta be some mama money jock richkid with a gym membership, part time lifeguard job, and pay to play fantasy camp waiting for their inheritance budget for any got-mine gentrification motherfuckers to even acknowledge your music or art in this zombified Brunch Culture Of Elitism and let them eat cake and I am certainly Not That. Been a mighty stressful week here, kinda been too depleted to do much besides try to carry out my obligations and rest when I can, ‘sorta emotionally tapped out and creatively depleted. The one percent ruling class who own this country and profit from keeping the weapon makers ever richer and the boomer middle class sedated on media gaslighting and non stop craven consumerism and phermaceuticals, make us low wage laborors so exhausted what with having to fight for every scrap of nothin’, there really aint much time for recreation, relationships, art, or music making, ya know, it’s all hunger games and fight to live on the planet of the apes, now. It’s gonna come for all of the more insulated people, too. Remember I told you. You know that Dylan song, “The Man In Me”? I’m feelin’ that on these mornings when it feels like I’m non consensually turning into a machine. When you’re responsible for other people’s safety and wellbeing, the take this job and shove it, most satisfying walkout aint always an option. I hope wherever you are, you are doing something all the time to help stop the massacres of innocents by western warpigs. And that you are boycotting all genocide affiliated companies and candidates who greenlit butchered babies and bombed hospitals for Aipac. To all those in the real active struggle against genocide, tyrrany and uniparty fascism, may you find some hours each day for relief and respite from the shamefull horrors of the rulers, and some genuine moments of comaraderies and solidarity.
