Some been around the block hardknocked suspicious oldsters here know shit ain’t right, lotta antisocial people hiding out in delapidated boxes that city hall gentrifiers refer to as blight, as an excuse to push out the elderly, they think yuppie tech millionaires wanna live out in the middle of nowhere. What a joke. Infrastructure’s crumbling, water pipes are always bursting flooding the stinky downtown. Ranchers and rightwingers always celebrate when some fly by night developer displaces wildlife to build more ugly oversized, overpriced McMansions on swamplands in the middle of the waste treatment area, they’ve all been repetition duped into believing that any useless building is gonna attract outta state vacation home buyers, but nobody wants to pay half a mill to live somewhere if there is no culture, no real restaurants, nothing to do, nowhere to shop. Sometimes, disposable income havers travel through and get excited by the picture postcard and imagine they can overnight get rich quick by turning the high heat nowhereville into a thriving gentrification brunching hipster paradise-you know, ten tattooists and food truck waffle fries vendors have come and gone in five years, but the city slickers find out how painful the tedium becomes and end up trying to sing kereoke at the lone tourist trap craft beer joint five nights a week, with the obnoxiously horndog elderly widowers willing to pay nine bucks a pint but there’s no women, no young people, no music scene, so they all end up having to take their new age pitbulls and kitschy statues and banjos and electric cars and go back to wherever it was they first got all them Elvis tattoos. Permanent exiles try to fill the empty space with fiendish cigarette smoking, or endless conversations about legal reefer, everybody is really into their dogs. Nothing else, no jobs, no nightlife. Five fake art studios are only open a few hours a day, maybe three days a week. Tire stores and animal feed farm suppliers, you can take a walk through cactus country if you aint afraid of snakes, but no one leashes their weaponized animals, so you will likely get chased, so everyone has a truck, except for me. I’m a permenent stranger, the town’s lone pedestrian. Nothing to do, nowhere to go, I wanna be sedated. Ya see the “Honk If You Love Jesus” people mingling with the flatbroke seventy somethings out in the blistering sun, holding signs that say things like, “Need Everything” or “Thirsty”, “Anything Helps”, or “Need Ride To Texas” where very old people try to panhandle, or find rides outta this vulture-ville, but most of the time I aint got no money to give nobody. It’s a bit of a laugh almost, how my own former got rich ex friends and their greedhead wives are always on their high panic red alert: just conspicuously, hysterically frantic with the fear that someone like me is gonna showup uninvited at any minute now and embarrass them in front of their even richer so called superiors, or come bother the doorman in the lobby of their big silver uptown Gotham skyscraper and shake ’em down for cigarettes, but I only call those people when somebody we grew up with dies, and honestly, after the last few blow offs, I’m pretty sure it won’t happen again, not in this lifetime. I see how those folks aren’t even phased by the early death of the unsightly little people from the long forgotten hometown past, all they know now or think about, care about or love, is their own privilege, property, prestige, pay to play pseudo celebrity, vanity brand merchandisings, and guarding and protecting and bragging about their stuff. Room after room filled with box upon box of unsold shit with their name or goofy logo on it. The typical Murkkkan egomania is unreal, some of these people aint been checked in years cause they got no real friends, just sycophants, suckups, users, and personal assstants, it’s all about maintaining that exact preferred climate control, never having to think about anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, in a lotta people’s imaginations even mortality is unworthy of any contemplation cause they just think that means they will get more money from dead relatives-they, themselves will live forever in their collection packed special pyramid safespace. It’d be funny, if it was not so sad, or sad if it was not so funny,. I don’t even know anymore. All the fucking crazy ratracers are even making me numb, now. Even if you get to the redlight first, who is supposed to be impressed, again? It’s all just ratrace mazes to them. Me, first, me, first, gobble, gobble, gobble.
