“Aysenur Eygi is among the most moral people to have ever lived, joining Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall, Shireen Abu Akleh, Jacob Flickinger and others killed by the genocidal Israeli death-cult. She had US citizenship, and could have stayed there and still protest the genocide there with every means available to her, and that would be very valuable and important. But she decided that was not enough. She decided that she had to go to the West Bank directly, and put her own body on the line to protect Palestinians and in doing so help enforce international law, human rights, and basic morality. She knew she was taking a risk to her life, because she knew that the genocidal Israel death-cult kills anyone, including Americans, with full impunity. And still she made the choice to go there, and join other brave paragons of moral virtue who are fighting on the front-lines with nothing but their protests. They have no weapons, they have no tanks, no jets, they only have their words of protest. And even that is seen as an existential threat by the genocidal Israeli regime, who shoot to kill anyone who dares raise even their voice against them. I’m very hesitant to give advice to people on what they should do with their lives especially when it involves life-threatening risks. So all I will do instead is point to people like Aysenur Eygi, Rachel Corrie, Tom Hurndall, Shireen Abu Akleh, Jacob Flickinger, all those who were killed on the Mavi Marmara, and say: This is the most moral and humane act any person who lives in the West and has citizenship especially from the US or UK can do right now. Even more especially if they are “white”. Because the plain fact is that the only time Western media gives any attention to a person killed by Israel, even if it is fleeting and quickly memory-holed, it is when they have Western, US, UK citizenship, and they are white. Then suddenly their parents get interviewed. Their spouses get interviewed. They get a Wikipedia page set up for them. Blinken is forced to talk about them. CNN, NYT, BBC, Reuters, AP are forced to write pieces on them, as the desperately minimize and launder their murder. But at least they have a name and they are forever written in history as being among the bravest souls who have lived on this planet, for they made the choice to put their own life on the line to protest a genocide, a Holocaust, being done to Palestinians as the rest of the world watched and did nothing. I remember Chomsky mentioning in one of his talks that during the 1970s and 1980s a new form of activism was developed that had never been done before like this. American nuns and priests and activists, who were “white” and had no personal connection to any of these South and Central American countries, decided to go there, to Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and other countries ravaged by US and Israeli trained, armed and led rape and death-squads, to put their own lives directly in front of these rapists and murderers who were throwing babies into wells and raping children in front of their parents (see https://x.com/zei_squirrel/status/1817361312352989563…). They said: The world is turning a blind eye to these horrific rapes and genocidal massacres of these peoples, and we will not allow that. And we will move beyond just using our voices here in the US, which is falling on deaf ears, and instead go there ourselves and FORCE THEM to talk about it. We will FORCE THEM to see it, by putting ourselves at risk. And they were killed. Many of them were raped and killed.
