Now I got that record before I got his solo debut or anything by Gen X, but it just slayed me, or maybe I should say SLADE me! 1983 was a major year for me. I thanked both Billy and Steve on their Twitters, but I probably also shoulda thanked Keith Forsey who produced so much of my fave 80’s bands like the Furs, Simple Minds, and Charlie Sexton, Hey Keith, I know you’re rich as fuck, but dig this: I got some real wild songs, just need a producer. Anyways, I used to treasure this promotional cassette I once owned with my darling Martha Quinn who I met when she was still dating Stiv at ENZS on St.Mark’s when I was a 14 year old guttersnipe interviwing Billy. Billy was talking about what inspired him to write one of my alltime favorite songs, “Untouchables”, and even as a young and weird as fuck teenager, I totally identified with him talking about how some of the people he looked up to when he was growing up, who lifted his consiciousness and first made him want to rebel, had sold out out and how badly that had bummed him out and ya know, I’m 53 here, and still vibe loudly with everything he was saying. Almost nobody since Joe Strummer is still writing songs as good and heartfelt as Billy and Steve Stevens, and I will probably be blasting all their songs everyday until I die, which could be any day now, as all my pals who did not sell out to the man totally croaked before their time and I think of them all when I wake up every morning and when I go to sleep every night. When one of my last surviving hombres recover from their third surgery this year, I’m hoping we can reconvene and blow the saloon doors offa your favorite juke joint, we aint as skilled or good lookin’ as Billy and Steve but we got a lot of songs coming from the same kinda places in our black hearts.
