I didn’t live at Park Drive, I just visited, but there was a kid who I did not like at first who worked with my homeboys at the Harvard Square conveneience store, turned out he was just as fucking sweet as pie and smart as a whip and like totally on page with me, he loved Hunter S. Thompson and Joe Strummer, just like me. Then there was the wild man from nowhere who never washed his laundry so his room stank like a frathouse, he was a lot of fun though, just a total rocknroll animal, all the time, full time, a wild man. Leather pants and fearleless, girls flocked to him. Guitar player, very cute but also highly intellectuual and pretty arty, one of the few people who actually read the books I gifted them with. Imagine Joe Perry was a teenage girl-that’s what he looked like back then. He could play his ass off, too. Loved Peter Murphy and Steve Vai, he was ecclectic, funny, fun loving, a goof, we pissed on Plymouth Rock. Stole reindeer outta people’s front yards. He was a major girl magnet. Lived on Coke and cereal. He became a doctor, me I’m just a punk rocker. Some other guy named Ted lived there but I did not like that guy at all, he was like, into chess and going to Harvard.

I’d bring girls there and we’d serenade them. The writer Jake had a crusty punk girlfriend named Theis he picked up in the pit of Harvard Square. She was loud and abrasive. sang backups on a soulful song a famous band rewrote and gave us no credit on. I met a super cool cat from Switzerland at the Johnny Thunders memorial, he just came straight up to me and said, “are you a singer”. To which I probably responded, “Well, yeah,.Obviously”. He said he was putting together a dirty downtown NYC rocknroll band and asked me to make a demo tape so me and the lads recorded covers of “Search & Destroy” and “Spanish Bombs” and I got the gig. Did not last long but learned loads and am still grateful for the experiences. Still love the lads. A couple of ’em went straight, like totally 9 to 5 straight, blows my mind.
