The ANTI-QUEENS from Toronto are back with 13 songs. “Apocalypse She” is hard hittin’ from the start with a bit of a DISTILLERS vibe in it while “Bulldozer” mixes pop melodies to power metal guitar riffs. “Love’s Heavy Burden” is catchy enough to be the band’s next single, “Saviour” and “Crusade” sound more like modern rock with a touch of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and “Dirty Girl” offers us some fine heavy blues. One of the songs that stands out is “Doomed Again”, it has the energy and the hooks that will make you want to listen to it again just after the very last note. The ANTI-QUEENS are very good at mixing pop melodies and heavy guitars and you’ll hear it in “Say What You Want”, “Freeloading” or in “Overthinking” but they also know how to deliver in your face punk rock with “Owe U Shit” or the anthemic “Magnolia.” Definitely worth checking out. /Laurent C.
