A dear friend of mine who works her arse off for the houseless community in the Pacific Northwest came from an old hippie family who started that famous Country Fair in Veneta Oregon and she’s treated like royalty by summa the tie-died old boomers and Kesey people, but she knew way back in the Occupy daze that while most of the cozy haves liked to fly the rainbow flag and Tibetan prayer flags and put tapestries all over their big house and talk about Bob Marley and shit, that don’t mean they want to ever share space with unsightly, less cultivated poor people-their liberal and progressive values were mostly all a show, ya know? I wrote a song about it, years ago. I’d seen the same thing in my little underground world as former punks assimialted into straight society and ended up only having one punk-ish “value” and that was simply, “no feelings for anybody else except for myself”. Ya know? I am still still stuck on the Angelic Upstarts “Solidarity”. I never stopped listening to Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros. That shit still INSPIRES me, especially on these bad trip, buzzkill, horrific headline dark, darker, darkest, still darkening times. Online social media allowed me to look in on summa the ex punks and let me tell ya, they are all sucked into the cable tv shitshow, the ratrace, Babylon, you know, #THEMEFIRSTMOVEMENT. Sad. Well here we are, still alive, some of us old gothnik former allnight hellraisers and depressed old punk rock dads in the withering, windy, desert ghost town 2024, I don’t know what to think about this world, no more. I know tv is all lies and the governement is not on my side. I got no confusion about that. I know it’s best to not have heroes cause if they don’t get whacked by the man, they usually end up disappointing the shit out of ya. I always remembered that old Diggers Peter Coyote idea from the 60’s: be your own hero, we just gotta do our own thing to the best of our ability and from the heart and call it good and ignore the non stop bleatings of the Matrix idiots with their nonsense authority trips and latest thang slogans and wahtever’s trending in the topdown narratives of the consumer zombie world. Everytime I think I know what’s goin’ on, I get totally blindsighted by some unexpected lights out shovel hit from behind, so I try to stay cool and just honor the old school punk traditions. There is a tiny community out here of last legs, old, coughing hermits and crazy old geezers who cosplay as shaman and hope to meet some younger traveler dirty barefooted hippie chicks who come through town on credit card vacations and new age basket case Georgia O’Keefe wannabe ladies in the desert, some of ’em are batshit-all the old women say they’re psychics, some of ’em are well intentioned, I can’t relate to any of the local airbandb hipsters with the fakeass art galleries and gimmick product shticks but I know shit tons of wild activists in faraway places all over the world who still seem to have some conscience and that gives me some remote hope even if I am immobilized and think it’s unlikely I’ll ever cross paths with many of them again, in real life, as the kids say, I’m grateful they’re out there, resisting, collaborating, putting shit together and shutting it down for Palestine. “The United States is a case study in why centralisation of power always leads to great evil.
The nature of centralised power forces two things to happen: first, only those who pledge total allegiance to its continued centralisation are permitted to rise the ranks to take part in the closed, non-democratic political process (centralised power is innately non-democratic, obviously); and, second, it will pro-actively seek to take power from others outside of this chain of command—both inside and outside of the system—to prevent any reaching a level of parity, because any other group with similar power or resources means they cannot exert total control and this limits further centralisation. In real, less abstract terms, this means the United States exploiting literally everyone it can, from its own citizens to people desperately trying to survive in the poorest countries on earth, to suck in wealth and resources so it can further exploit—creating a monstrous power-hungry beast, like a giant black hole at the heart of our global society. This can be curtailed in one of two ways: either external groups compete to limit its metastatic growth, or it collapses from internal pressure—due to the increasingly corrupt and incompetent people who rise the ranks, as it becomes more and more corrupted, and so fewer noble actors can take part. Both are accelerating, so which will occur first is anyone’s guess. What is for sure, however, is that the ‘Point of Intention’ has been breached. This term is an invention of my own, so I apologise for stepping on any other terms in the field, but I believe political actors start with a specific goal in mind that they* believe is at least somewhat noble—everyone thinks they’re justified in their head. Seldomly people believe they are the bad guys. (*It’s worth noting that this is entirely subjective—it’s often only noble to those in positions of power, but destructive to everyone else, but that’s not the point here…) When power begins to coalesce, however, there is a point at which the motive flips and becomes less of The Noble Goal and more of just centralising power for the sake of centralising power. And the US, whatever it was intended to be, has long ago breached that point. It exists now only as a tyrant that exerts control over almost ten billion souls in some degree or another, and much of our ecosystem, for the pure sake of continuing that control. And it has now shown once again, but this time in clear view of the whole world, that it will commit the worst atrocities conceivable to continue its reign. We have never in the history of the world seen a Great Beast like this before—nor have we seen how it falls or what damage it can do on its eventual way down—but what it should tell is, in no uncertain terms, is that the only path to a fairer world is by following decentralised power as a guiding star.” (-Tiberius)
