The original line-up played from 1979 to 1981 performing in France and Switzerland and touring with groups such as Magazine, The Cramps, A Certain Ratio, Marquis de Sade and many more. In 2018 the group put out a compilation of unreleased tracks dating back from the early 80’s on Caméléon Records. A major exhibition, The Lyon Capital du Rock 1978-1983 at the Part-Dieu Lyon Library the following year, coupled with a documentary called ‘Sauvages’ on France 3, put Affection Place back in the spotlight and revived interest in the group.
The band officially reformed in 2019, the two original members Peter Petersen (vocals – guitar) and Christian Bonnet (drums) being joined by Tim Petersen on bass & vocals and Hamish McKay on guitar, and started writing new material, recording, producing videos and performing live. During this time Affection Place formed a close relationship with keyboard player and producer Dave Formulafrom the bands Magazine and Visage and he featured on a number tracks recorded in 2019 and 2021.The collaboration with Dave Formula, whose influence on Affection Place is unmeasurable – the group toured with Magazine in 1980 – marks a new page in Affection Place’s history, and it was inevitable that he would produce the new album and feature throughout the recording, playing on all the album’s 10 tracks. In 2022 Affection Place had enough material for a new record and travelled to Louth, UK to record the album in Dave’s studio The Sweet Factory.
