A friend of mine, a talented rapper from my so called former hometown I hope to never revisit, died a couple years back from lung cancer and his wife left him while he was dying and he tried to please her by taking a minimum wage restaurant job WHILE DYING and collapsed and had to be ambulanced to intensive care, he’d been back in the polyester uniform with the mop bucket, but she’s gone to college, still had her looks and knew she could still probably “marry up”. So yeah it was savage when she ditched him-when he was a popular barber/rapper/MC/DJ, his stock was high, but if you get tired or sick, or the band breaks up and you lose your celebrity status, motherfuckers will leave you, that’s how it is in the Divided Slaves Of Amnesia, nobody remembers nothin’. Nobody cares, nobody remembers”. Bowie wrote about it in “Young Amerikkkans”. Gore Vidal talked about it his whole life. My good brother had a long time to contemplate mortality and the past while he was in hospice care and we talked about everything-the teenage years where his Kangol clad crew of old school hiphop heads and my gang of goths and punks used to pal around together, drinking malt liquor, dreaming of making it in the music business, we talked in depth about religion, the hustle, the afterlife, the acid trips, the public school and pig media brainwashing, the politics, how the culture was altered by the big techlords and censorship and dividen n conquer culture wars. He got to see his kids. Then he died. He was a real good dude, always was creative, gentlemanly, funny, and insightful. I have many fond memories of him and our other friends composing up in his bedroom with the forty ounces and the two turntables and drum machines and shit way back in the 80’s. I struggle with the cigarettes, old habits and near constant stress in the heatwave of the dead end nothing to do no opportunity except for hot kitchen hose dishwashing southwest and also you know the constant threat of wars and evictions and utility shutoffs and sinking ship rats, so like Johnny Thunders once sang, the present aint too satisfying and I aint got no more false hopes to project into the ever receding distance no more. So yeah alot of my motivating inspirations been shot full of holes since about ’97, and even the false start musical operations that came after that kinda died in the cradle. So forgive me if I can’t fake a big showbiz car dealer smile and pump anybody’s hand with mock confidence and big promises, been here for decades, and it’s all about money in this economy, let’s face it. They killed all our old places and handed the big megaphone to nepobabes from hipster showbiz dynasties. Besides rocknroll which is nearly impossible for extremely poor people, ya know, aint much budget to travel with, so ya know you end up sitting on the same parkbench on the same street like ya have everyday for years and there aint no new infusion of experiences or positive energy, you just end up kinda mourning what is lost, but the old songs can still provide some deeply felt consolation even if I can’t get back to that lost eden mythical summer youthful glory and Gabba Gabba Hey comaraderie I thought I once shared with a whole pack of leather jacket weareres who casually defied the sign at the cemetary saying, “no alcohol”. You can’t go back, can’t go home, so ya gotta find new ways to cope with the monotony and gloom and a sunburn and gloating, meanspirited predator class gotmines and undermining, severely judmental rat racing competition greedheads having a plaigiristic ball on the backs of the poor. Can be a drag. Someone suggested I have given up on most everything and basically just want to go get drunk at this point. They could be right.
