Not to be confused with 80s cult French new wave band TAXI GIRL, TAXI GIRLS are a punk rock band from Montreal. Opening song “Bring It”and “Kill Your Darlings” both bring The DISTILLERS to mind while “Try Harder” heads to the glam punk direction. “Red Flag Crush” has a cool glammy indie vibe, a bit as if The DONNAS were jamming with PEACHES. You’ll also hear some ’77 punk influences in “Auto Hysterics” and in “Don’t Leave Me Hanging” as well as some well-crafted power pop in “So Quaint” and in “Midnight Mixtape”. If you’re into pop punk, then “Secret Handshake” is the one for you and if you’re more into punk’n’roll then just listen to “Makes Me Think”. You’ll even find some post-punk traces in “Highs//Lows” and some grungy tones in “Dark Time.” The albums ends on a more emotional note with the acoustic ballad “Other Heart”. TAXI GIRLS already have a solid reputation when it comes to live shows so there’s no doubt that this debut album will take them a few steps further. /Laurent C.
