ROMEO is the new band of Max Colliva (The LOYAL CHEATERS, RICKY RAT band, etc.) who plays guitar and sings on this debut album. Opening song “Frankfurt Lights” brings American bands like BITERS to mind although the band don’t deny their Italian roots with a song called “Italian Guy” which sounds a bit like a mix of EDDIE AND THE HOT RODS and CHEAP TRICK. “True Confessions”and “Soul Staller” are groovy and catchy tunes that have a bit of an 80s disco rock vibe, think KISS “Unmasked” era. You’ll also hear pure power pop in songs like “Romeo (“A Loyal Borderline”) or “No More Chances” and the TOM PETTY influence is quite obvious especially when the band has chosen to cover “I Need To Know”. At times ROMEO gets more into the 70s classic rock territory with songs like “What’s Going On” or “Decadent Man.” “Deja Vu Letters” is a fine mix of power pop, glam, 70s and 80s rock played with style. Check it out! /Laurent C.
