Los Angeles post punk trio BLACK MARKET HEART is back with this 9 song album. The opening track “What Happens in the Dark” goes straight to the point, more WARSAW then JOY DIVISION. “Don’t Fit Anywhere” offers us a cool blend of post punk and American rock’n’roll while “Radio Smash” takes us back to 80s England with dark atmospheres and a danceable chorus. “Girls Dreams” (originally recorded by BECK) has a more lo-fi sound bringing early JESUS AND MARY CHAIN to mind and “Self-Destruct With Me” shows us the heavier side of the band. You’ll even hear a psychedelic touch in “Without My Pills” and some chaotic punk rock in the powerful and addictive “My Brain Is Poison”. BLACK MARKET HEART also offers us a surprising distorted cover of The STINGERS 1971 reggae song “Give Me Power” and when the dark punk “Coyote” starts you just want to get back to the start and listen to the whole album again! /Laurent C.
