Captured live at Vancouver’s “Town Pump” in 1994 and released by Vicious Kitten Records, this record also includes some rare 1992 demos. The live songs remind us ofd how raw and loud PILLBOX NYC was during the grunge era. Songs like “Sinister Urge”, “Bobby’s Shakin’ Again” or “Get hip” bring The STOOGES to mind while “5000 miles” and “Come Up Heroin” have a bit of DOORS into them. PILLBOX NYC also knew how to slow things down while keeping the atmosphere intense at the same time in a song like “Sister Caroline”. This shows ends with the dangerously addictive “Get Around” and “What She Wants”, some of the best PILLBOX NYC songs. The demos were recorded one year before the release of their album “Jimbo Clown’s Room” and offer us 9 unpolished songs (one of them “When In Rome” is actually from rehearsal.) “Nowhereland” has a GUN CLUB touch to it while “Devil In My Bed” and “Holly” flirt with JOHNNY THUNDERS. You’ll also hear a bit of SUICIDE in the demo version of “5000 miles”. PILLBOX NYC was the real deal! /Laurent C.

I played with Ratboy in the Jeff Dahl Group, and worked with him at Triple X Records. Is any of this music streamable? I still have “Jumbo’s Clown Room” by Pillbox from back in the day.
