Haunting Paris’ streets since 2007, Guts Guttercat have been struggling through thick and thin but still manages to release new albums and tour. “Rise & Fall Of The Last Civilization” brings These IMMORTAL SOULS back to earth and the melancholy of a dying world mixes with otherworldly optimism in the violin driven “Aliens Are Back.” 70s pop prevails in “Lament In The Night” while you’ll hear some NICK CAVE influences in “Everything I Touch Slides Through My Hands”, a post-punk touch in the dark rock tracks “Beautiful Curse”/”Wishing On A World” and a bit of BOWIE in “All Fall Down.” The Western Spaghetti influence that could be heard in the previous album is still here, especially in “If You Love Me” and a sad ballad like “When You Lose Your Dearest Friend” bring NIKKI SUDDEN and ROWLAND S. HOWARD to mind. Fine just like a good glass of wine. /Laurent C.
