August 02, 2024 – Santa Cruz hardcore punks Seized Up have released a new music video for “Hanging in the Balance,” the lead single off their upcoming second LP Modify the Sacred. The album is available for pre-order via Pirates Press Records.
The songs on this record come from extremely personal and often dark places for singer & lyricist Clifford Dinsmore, and lead single “Hanging in the Balance” is a prime example. Dinsmore explains, “In the time period I was fighting cancer, I was shacked up, feeling like a prisoner in my own house. Living in a semi-purgatory state, it felt like I was looking at the world from an outside view.”
The single had a digital release in June and has been well received by fans eager to hear more from the Santa Cruz four piece. The new music video, released a week in advance of the album’s August 9th street date, features footage of the band saturated in blood red lighting, which make a perfect visual accompaniment to the band’s signature sonic onslaught of blistering, dark hardcore punk.
In addition to the music video, the band and Pirates Press Records will be promoting the LP’s release with a Picture Flexi single of “Hanging in the Balance” which will be available free with purchase from the label’s webstore in the near future. The popular format is an ideal showcase for the album’s ominous art direction courtesy of artist & designer Eli Atkins.
Featuring an impressive pedigree including members of BL’AST!, Good Riddance, The Distillers, and Fast Asleep, Seized Up picks up right where they left off on their 2020 debut LP Brace Yourself, with a 10 song barrage of relentless, uncompromising rage, touching on topics such as religion, self-medication, and survival in a – literally & figuratively – sick society.
Between playing shows with legendary acts like Quicksand, FEAR, RKL, and Propagandhi, the band got back together with Paul Miner at Buzzbomb Studios to lay down the follow up to their explosive debut. All in all, it is a continuation of the band’s fast & hard approach in every way, and if anything, the band is more dialed-in and focused than ever.
