When I was a kid, ya know, you’d go to a show, usually like, on a Sunday night, right, and all the black garbed goth and punk kids would be moving around in their atomic rooster hairdos and long trench coats painted with gloomy slogans and anarchy signs and ripped jeans all sharpied with band names and combat boots, oftentimes with fishnets underneath and some louts would be showing off or skateboarding in the parking lot and singing dumb songs together in fake british accents and the heavily madeup goth girls would be rolling their eyes, maybe someone’s knitting, everybody’s got 40 onces of malt liquor in brown bags, and usually, right inside the door where you paid to get in, there would be some outta town band’s merchandise for sale, 45’s usually and some black t shirt with the obligatory skull on it-I used to say to my older bandmates, “c’mon, we just gotta print up some black skull shirts and sell ’em outta the back of a van!”, ya know the Misfits whole fortune was built on selling black t shirts with skulls on ’em, but there would also always be like twenty different fanzines for sale, three to ten double sided pages of collages and hand written reviews and sad poems and local scene reports and cartoons of big mohawked hardcores and photos of pouty faced teens in gloomy cemetaries, and they’d be folded into different sizes and stapled at Kinko’s in the middle of the night, and you could usually trade yours for theirs, it was how we made pen pals with all the other punk rockers from all over. Now we got the internet, I guess, so alot of people walk around with their culture swag all reduced to a cellphone they can scroll on all day, and me, I cut n paste the resistance culture headlines of the day and my mixtapes of old songs we loved, here and there on the internet, while I have my coffee most mornings, but I miss getting mail, ya know, we used to exchange these big cultural care packages of tapes, and magazine pinups and an empty beercan and a broken drumstick, and handwritten Depeche Mode lyrics and decorate the enevelope with all the Love & Rockets and Bauhaus logos I got kicked outta middle school for defacing my history book with. Now, kids just wanna be douchebag influncers and build brands and become famous for unboxing products or breaking shit on Youtube. Lifestyle programming has replaced music in the lives of most everybody I know, product upgrades and trending skin creams and vitamins and all that shit, they are all in a slogan reciting, obedient, hypnotic consumer frenzy. I don’t really yearn to brag about owning a hipster airbandb like many of my former associates, I can’t even imagine that being that fun at all. I still cling to the old music and old way of life, that’s my subculture, really. Cenosrship never became wokeolicious in my book, surveillance never felt woke and reassuring to me just cause oligarchs assigned ten people of color to stand behind the podium. I’m still opposed to mass murdering children and destroying hospitals and libraries and colleges to plunder natural gas reserves and expand depraved and crazy hateful orwellian paranoid ethnostates. I strongly dislike the notion of foreign billionaires being allowed to buy the politicians outright. I know I have zero representation. My supposedly educated middle class friends don’t even understand that people of color are predominantly being forced to labor in prisons for big corporations cause they’re all so absolutely batshit razzle dazzled by the hoopla and mediocrity of these gross manufactured celebrities and red carpet nights and shit. As much as the sensitive yuppies claim to detest Donald Trump and the Republikkkans, you’d think they’d pause sometimes during their precious commute or mimosa bruncheon to note how many of Genocide Joe’s policies are in exact, precise, identical synch with the Donald Trump and The Republikkkans whole agenda, but nope, they’ve been convinced that just one Oaf and his scary omnipresent Commie puppetmaster are to blame for all of their discomforts, but never, never their friendly partisan token fraud squad who, like Jimmy Dore said when universal healthcare was still on the table a few years back, never vote as a block, always play the rotating hero/villain game, and always refuse to force the vote. What good does it do to have a strong black woman in Congress if she votes yes for superfunding these gigantic money laundering operations like in Ukraine or mass incarceration of the working class, and providing bottomless bullets for disgraceful, inhumane slaughter of human beings like we’ve all witnessed during the last six months of genocide, and willingly endorses fascist candidates who read our emails, and censor our access to truth on the ground like every rightwing war pig weapons manufacturer greedhead chauvanist honky? It’s just a marketing hoax to make middle class property owning trains on time people feel more comfortable and cozy about their jobs as button pushers for the honky death machine. “Because You’re Worth It!” I can’t imagine how many middle class prescription happy pills it takes for all those people to still parrot propaganda tropes and exepect anyone to take them seriously as they bleat on about empty identity politics and how rich white millionaire women desrve bigger jets or whatever and that’s supposed to pass for their lone issue. I’d like to go away from this country, find some place to live that’s more like the punk rock bohemian nightlife I knew as a younger person before the Doucehbags took over.I don’t care what color or gender or sexual prefernce somebody has, trot out all 31 flavors of vetted and auditioned diversity fascists, I’ll still oppose genocide and fascism, which is the marriage of state and corporations with blacklists and big goons with guns checking bags on the subways, and groping your granny at the airports. What I really need’s somebody with some studio expertise willing to help me record this significant archive of original music I’ve composed here, properly. The studio owners where I’ve traveled always wanna charge me like, more than a car to make a record, I’ll never have that kind of money, that’s why modern music kinda sucks, in my opinion, and I’ve been saying it for a long time, it’s all just inhertance rock now.
