I’ve never really stopped listening to The HANGMEN since their 1989 debut album. Time flies but there’s always been a time to come back to my HANGMEN cassette and records. I actually really got into them again when “Metallic I.O.U.” was released in 2000. Here they are back with 10 new songs recorded in different studios. “Broken Heartland”opens with typical HANGMEN guitar riffs and slide guitars just before “Midnight Riders” tells us stories about rock’n’roll life in 80s Los Angeles with style and melody. The HANGMEN never really change but always surprise us with good songs and you won’t resist the catchy “Last Time I Saw You”, the groovy “Stories To Tell”, the bluesy ballad “On The Outside” or the darker “Hard Luck Jim” While the band is often compared to The GUN CLUB, they offer us “Sinister Purpose” a wild and haunting cover of CREEDANCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. The spirit of The ROLLING STONES is also never very far when listening to “Bayou Moon” or “Behind The Wheel.” The album ends with “Runnin Kind” showing the more emotional side of the band and making us wish they still had more stories to tell. The HANGMEN never take the wrong way!/Laurent C.
