LITTLE GIRLS might not have been be famous in Europe but they rocked 80s L.A. with powerpop radio hits like “Earthquake Song” and its girl pop meets BEACH BOYS vibe or the teenage pop “How To Pick Up Girls”. The band just released the mini-album “Thank Heaven” which is now reissued by Australia’s Playback Records alongside various demos and unreleased recordings. It’s hard to resist candy pop songs like “Bandana” or “Rich Girl”. The vocals harmonies sound perfect on DAVE CLARK FIVE‘s “Anyway You Want It” or “I Really Want To Be With You.” You’ll hear a new wave touch in “Left Without a Real Kiss” and in the emotional “No Time To Say Goodbye” and its anthemic chorus as well as a bit of NY punk in “Can’t Get Rid of You” and in “Not a Perfect World”. It’s no surprise that names like BLONDIE‘s Clem Burke and Nigel Harrison or RAMONES producer Ed Stasium were involved and it’s sometimes hard to believe that a song like “Second Thoughts” didn’t become a massive hit in the 80s. The 60s pop/BEACH BOYS vibe can be heard especially in “Beach” and in The HOLLYBERRIES‘ cover “I Wanna Go Surfin’ with Santa.” This record can only make you think that LITTLE GIRLS were one of the most 80s underrated bands. /Laurent C.
