Various musicians have joined their forces and covered some of the best 80s bands to support bass player CHARLES LEVI (THRILL KILL KULT, PIGFACE…) APOLOGY KINK opens on the PET SHOP BOYS‘ classic “West End Girls” accentuating the dancefloor kick and gothy vibe before LEVILEVI VS. BANGALORE featuring BETTY X revamp PAT BENATAR‘s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” into an industrial synthpop song. PRECOG offers us a dark pop version of MADONNA‘s “Oh Father”, SU chose SKINNY PUPPY‘s “Smothered Hope” and the female vocals work very well on this one. LOVE AND ROCKET‘s post-glam hit “So Alive” turns into a crazy psychedelic experience with MICROWAVED while DURAN DURAN‘s “The Chauffeur” is beautifully covered by BETTY X. Things get quieter with DOORS IN THE LABYRINTH and their emotional version of OINGO BOINGO‘s “Dead Man’s Party” before GIANT MONSTERS ON THE HORIZON bring you back to the dancefloor with “It’s a Sin” (PET SHOP BOYS.) MISSING IN STARS‘ version of the THOMPSON TWINS “Hold Me Now” will make you dance with a tear in your eye before PLANETDAMAGE‘s cover of “Sunglasses at Night” (COREY HART) will take you to space. STABBED BY PRONGS ft. BOW EVER DOWN chose to rock to ASIA‘s “Heat of The Moment” while VIOLET WANDA took the prog rock direction with KING CRIMSON‘s “Discipline” and GLITCH FACTOR pays tribute to DEPECHE MODE’s “Strangelove”. On the goth side, you’ll hear “Hollow Hills” (BAUHAUS) covered by DOGTABLET and a darker version of BERLIN‘s hit song “Take My Breath Away” by HORORHAUS ft. Kimberly (BOW EVER DOWN.) The party ends on full dancefloor mode with RENEGADE SL8VE V. GIANT MONSTERS ON THE HORIZON turning ADAM ANT‘s “Desperate, but not Serious” into an EBM jam. Last but not least, STONEBURNER offers us a very surprising version of FAITH NO MORE‘s “The Crab Song.” “Retronomicon” is a great compilation for a good cause, check it out! /Laurent C.
