While honoring the origins of punk and the energy it birthed with it, LORD FRIDAY THE 13th continues the legacy of change and pushing boundaries on societal norms that true punk is known for.  Challenging gender roles and conformity, Lord Friday is here to empower and inspire a new kind of punk for a new world. Mourning Glories is a slight shift in energy from the fast and hard punk the band is known for on their previous “Disaster Piece” EP and leans more into their theatrical and surreal side.

Mourning Glories is a heartbreak song recorded at Bed Rock Studios in Ireland, engineered by Pete O’Hanlon and Evan Walsh (ex-the Strypes and ex-the Zen Arcade) with mixing handled by Brendan Benson (the Raconteurs).

Playing with concepts of good and evil and the idea of ‘ugliness’ (visually and sonically), the music video is an origin story of sorts (directed by Gilbert Trejo and featuring a special cameo from Dani Miller (Surfbort, Trashworld)) detailing the “birth” of Lord Friday and how he came to be….. in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde fashion. Taking visual inspiration from the 1970’s underground art film Pink Narcissus, the opening scene takes place in a pink wonderland of sequins and black nail polish where Felix is painting a bouquet of “mourning glories” black, in anticipation of seeing his boyfriend and surprising him with a gift to show his affections. After his flowers are tossed aside (by Dani Miller, playing Felix’s love interest), then his broken heart cracks open and the spirit of Lord Friday is born. This alter ego takes shape in the form of a shadow and wants to live a life of its own.

“Mourning Glories” music video was shot in LA and features a prominent cameo from the legendary Bob Baker Marionette Theatre. The band fabricated the props themselves and director Gilbert Trejo and cinematographer Max Flick brought an arsenal of practical effects and lighting tricks to bring the twisted vision to life.
