I was never that shocked by all the gratuitous nepotism and obscene corruption like with Hunter Biden cause that’s exactly how it always was where I grew up. Rich suburbans could drink underage, have cocaine, speed, drunk drive, run roughshed over all the smaller kids and never have any problems with authority because of their supposedly important richkid last names or because they were on some sports team. Would you believe that me and a church girl I used to date ended up having to duet on a live rendition of “Almost Paradise” at our church? True story! When I was a kid, I lived in a nowhere tank plant town and did not have MTV but every once in awhile I’d see something like that Tom Petty video for “You Got Lucky” at Ernie Fisher’s house and I considered that new wave back then-Loverboy made like the same video when they did “Queen Of The Broken Hearts”. Other times, my friend Sean and I would watch “Night Flight” cause he had cable and we liked all that stuff they played from the Clash to Kurtis Blow, Afrika Bamabatta and John Lydon, and Musical Youth and “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. Only music I was NOT into was the mook metal and stupid pop-metal shit they played on that top 40 local radio station. Every morning when I was getting ready to get on the school bus they were playing “Crazy For You” or “Only The Young” from the “Vision Quest” soundtrack. My neighbor chick was embarrassed to have to share the same bus stop as me, I was the weird kid who was into Prince and david Bowie and carried around books about Jim Morrison and dressed unlike my golf shirted and designer jean wearing peers. They were’t really music people-they were all like golfers, and sports people. Nostalgia makes old people like me endup liking summa the shit we thought was unforgivably stupid and corny and hamfisted and overtly slick when we were young and buckwild cutting edge. Mike Reno was like the fratboy Pat Benatar. All the older chicks who rode my bus were wicked into Loverboy and I got Saturday School once for alledgedly circulating the rumor that something bad had happened to singer Mike Reno who was like the senior chicks beloved stud of the day. Of course their kinda commercial hard rawk was not exactly my thing and I really could not stand that approach back then cause you know all the older brainless bully asshole deedling local jock rawkers really tortured us younger goofy wouldbe punks in parachute pants and Thomas Dolby new wavers for failing to own the obligatory Marshall stacks or being into mainstream metal but over time, and partly because of the Cherry Bombz covering “Hot Girls In Love”, I kinda weirdly started liking some of their shit. When Loverboy came to my last town to play the state fair, I got free tickets and took my wife and kid to see ’em but the boychild ate too much deep fried carnival food got bored waiting around in the hot sun for night to fall and we ended up having to leave the fair before the band went on, but like I said, strangely, in my old age, I kinda came round to really begrudingly appreciating summa Loverboy’s slick corporate bombastic eighties pop metal. DEF. like them more than Bon Jovi, but I remember liking “Runaway” when Howard Stern used to play it on that NY radio station back in the day, and also “Livin’ On A Prayer” when me and my skateboard sidekick would loiter for hours at the smalltown french fry and onion rings joint Happy Daze cause I liked a chick who worked there named Gina. Mike Reno if you are reading this, you should go Keto and lose 100 lbs overnight. I’m glad you’re still treading the boards, that Keto diet worked for me, man-I weighed as much as you like six years ago, but you’ll feel better and have more energy when you shed the weight and your knees won’t hurt as bad. Believe me, brother. I’m on your side.
