Whenever I see these guys performing live all the time and still steadily releasing such a prolific ouvre of outstanding tunes, you know I am ever so heartened, really. I met John in Hollywood when I was maybe 22 or 23 and we were instantly friends, he gave me his home number that night and we made plans to get together the next week, but perversely, fate intervened and I ended up having a seizure like the next night and waking up in a ward full of groaning homeless people at the county hospital strapped down to a bed with multiple nurses applying ice packs to my body cause I had a crazy high fever and we still dunno really how any of that happened. I love all his songs, he’s one of the best songwriters this country’s produced. They formed at a record store in Wayne, New Jersey. How romantic is that? Love ’em! Wish my early band(s) would’ve stayed together. We had memorable tunes galore but no real way to pay for them to be adequately recorded with our dishwasher and convenience store wages, so one by one all the lads kinda flaked off and did the other things. Broke my heart. It really did. We were good. I mean not in the early years when we were still learning how to play our instruments, doing covers and fucking around with bullshit dinky Sears catalog drum machines, but once we got out that Pudunk shithole, we started archiving so many promising songs, I thought we were basically unstoppable. Of course, I was wrong. Vive Le Dramarama!
