URGE OVERKILL
Pretty much the last gasp of a time in popular music when I could still vibe with any mainstream bands was the early nineties URGE OVERKILL era. They were at once coctail lounge lizards, silky smooth playboy party people, one of ’em was even dating Chrissie Hynde. I loved all their artsy songs with hooks and swanky atmospheres galore. I was in the highpitch peak of my own daze of deacdence in those hours swanning around with a colorful entrouge of loonies from all over the world who I met while working at Tower Records, we drank on the job and had band rehaersals or parties at our big Alsston ghetto apartment at night. “Dropout” was my theme song cause i’d grown up hanging out at the parking lot of dairy Queen and knew I had to get away, ya know? Those songs have been haunting me again lately because circumstances in my personal life are reminding me an awful lot of shit I went through beween the ages of twenty to twenty five. I seem to remember my old buddy the Sleazegrinder telling me some story about the advice that Neil Diamond supposedly gave Blackie, King, and Nash kato on the roof of some hotel where he had landed his helicopter. he supposedly told them that, “The dogs may bark but the carnival rolls on.” That sounded like good advice to me and my defiant sidekicks, no matter how many drummers would quit or women would split, we just kept on rollin’…I was never a pot smoker as a kid, whenever I took some, I got dizzy, nausous, cotton mouthed and paranoid, putting sink water on my face, askin’ my reflection in somebody’s medicine cabinet’s reflection why I bothered trying it again, but some funk guitarist had introduced me to a radio programmer who had a cool power pop band and we became instant laugh all night brothers and he got me high and introduced me to Urge Overkill and they never left my consciousness.

Even and especially the ones who call themselves woke or educated or scientific or spiritual. Why you worried about building your brand empire, and manufacturing more vanity merch if you don’t care about keeping up with the Kardashians? You see people overnight become just like their oppressor authoritarian hustler parents and it is heartbreaking to behold. one by one, they all get assimilated into the fuckedup Borg empire. Membership requires sacrifices, blood oaths, lies upon lies, propping up corrupt insitutions and known deceivers and flagrant war criminal mass murders, nothing but treachery. The man is demonic-I thought you knew. Even the fake pop muzak being pushed hard by the bad men in the topwers is all about glorifying violence, seeling out, monarch rituals, getting rich, selling your soul to the dark side. I don’t wanna be a stormtrooper or see something/say something snitch Karen. We’ve gone from fake corporate “Alternative” muzak to ballsout censorship, kidnapped journalists, billionaire capture of all pig media platforms, regulatory agencies and the purchase of all phony progressive politicians and all the high paid, slick media pros keep cashing checks to churn out more empire propaganda about how everybody on the Real Left are conspiracy theorists or Russian Bots, while Gropey Joe’s new normal cold war economy and kicking millions offa foodstamps and emergency healthcare is turing the screws to hard working families, creating needless hardship on toppa all the Died Suddenly and lies for more wars, cops keep killing citizens at an alarming pace, and all your foprmer middle class associates obediently parrot pro war slogans and pharma commercials like it’s the truth. Keeps the poor in a perpatual state of fear and destabilization. Splits families in two, puts people on streets. There’s smoke and vinyl chloride toxins in the air and poison in the water. People we once relied on can’t even have adult conversations with us anymore cause if we stand fiirm by our authentic own principles, they dismiss us as Bernie Bros or say we should be cancelled for not supporting their preferred partisan pinup celebrities who get trotted out on red carpets to insist that someone somewhere is not supporting Iranian transkids rights and must be punished, the transploitation LGBT community are being falsely conflated with why the death star should attack Iran according to AOC, when we don’t even have anything like real democracy here, it’s all just the same old patrirachal honky death machine with bonus tech, bogus culture wars, and a carefully curarated cast of 164 colors of feelgood fascist marketing hoaxes. Makes me wanna dropout and start a band but you know, the cheese stands alone, I just can’t find any people with similar values or visions to collaborate with-everybody seems hellbent on becoming their zipcodes Miley Cyrus/Dave Grohl medocrity gentrification airbandb brunching celeb. I had to reach out to my oldest outlaw survivor friend and he told me he guts it out by just staying fiercel;y independent and never relying on anybody. that’s tough for someone like me who is significantly less self possessed, who has always wanted a family, real friends, real love, a gang. How horrible is it to be trapped somewhere if you can’t trust the pople around you and you see ’em makin’ these slippery moves and shit? What the fuck and what’s the use? Makes me feel like cryin’. Every sad sack Chris Isaak song shows back up to slap me around some more. Holy shit! It pierces my heart! Perilous times. Shit’s disintegrating all around me and I have no power to slow it down. Just see more tragedy and loss and grief and betrayl a comin’ my way in slow-mo. The rich aspire to be false gawds while the poor are poisoned and left to rot and die suddenly shit has to be resisted, but the middle class are just official narrative gate keeping, P.C. feelings squad make believe it’s all hunky dory with cute flags and special foods flaunting, income gloating, V.I.P. room class traitors, really, they’ll gladly fuck over anybody they grew up with for some petty scraps of we earn more than you privileges. That’s why I say to my fellow brothers and sisters and friends of the revolution to organize your own people, otherwise you can easily get hijacked by the compromised agendas of the airbandb owner hipster capitalists who actually sympathize with the nazis and fascists and rich as fuck tech titan self-deputized depopulation czar authority figures.
