I was at camp that year-summer camp, and the older boys did a Blues Brothers skit at the camp talent show which I was ever so thrilled by. I was hardcore into all the SNL shit back then-Bees, Coneheads, Samurai, Bluto in “Animal House” breaking the sensitive college folky poseur’s guitar like he hda no choice, etc. I always had this big fantasy of having a summer camp food fight ala “Animal House” and maybe Bill Murray’s “Meatballs”. Chris Rock has a bit where he talks about “Selective Outrage” and how most of us had zero problem “cancelling” R Kelly but we keep on listening to those old Michael Jackson songs shamelessly. I think part of the problem with controlled media, which for years, has even openly self referenced as intotainment, is at some point, we quit believing in any of it. It’s all just sleazy tabloid style exploitation, sensationalism, coverups of white collar crimes, and ugly slander of people like Prince, Jill Stein, Julian Assange, they call Seymour Hersh a conspiracy theorist and act like cold war agent Rachel Maddow is some kinda just the facts ma’am reporter all just based on their own college graduate white property owner identification with a solemn toned gay woman from an elite college. So I tend to not beleiev very much of what they tell me on tv, particularly when it comes to celeberities who are worth a lot of money and died under dubious circumstances like Michael, Prince, Whitney, Whitney’s kids, or people who speak out against the corporate rulers or Wall Street, police, or government, they all seem to fall ill suddenly like Bill Hicks, or die in accidents or overdose and have the same handlers and maids and P.R. entrouges. I think any fair minded person becomes a skeptic regarding popular culture narratives, cause we know the Lie Factory just smears people, lies all the time. Hillary Clinton can go on tv and say Putin hacked the election for Trump, call active service member Gabbard a commie, call Sanders a sexist, and slag Stein as a pinko, too and nobody bats an eye, same people are just outraged that some Republikkkans don’t believe Biden beat Sanders in Michigan on Super Tuesday. I was skeptical about that muyself and I’m to the left of Sanders. I don’t believe Biden had a voting base in Michigan. I’m having a crummy day today and experiencing some habitual self pity and in a long reaching fit of nostalgia, I looked up an old friend’s Instagram page and was shocked to see a post that they’d had up for a year where they’d taken a photo of all this mail I sent them when I was 16 to 18. Holy smokes. Love letters, probably full of Sisters Of Mercy and Depeche Mode quotations or even worse, my younger, ill advised attempts at writing my own Sisters Of Mercy and Depeche Mode derivative bullshit. But she kept it all for thirty some years and one of my old cowboy string ties, too! My old xerox artwork and band fliers and pen pal nonsense-I tried to send people really fun mail when I was a kid. I’ll probably never see that human again, or talk to them on the phone which is something I can seldom do, cause I got disabled family members, I don’t even have the old friend’s e-mail address, but somehow, I’m really touched and surprised to be remembered, it ain’t that often in this lifetime, that our appreciations are mutual or sincere, so it’s special when one is. I think she still walks through my songs sometimes, we were goth kids, together. Good stuff. Beautiful feeling.Deep appreciation. She is still punk as fuck, too and married to a punk as fuck bloke, which makes me happy. People wanna believe this is a democracy and there is some kinda meaningful change happening, just because alot more women are in high ranking positions serving the empire’s same old Honky Death Machine, or because you suddenly see more gay people and black people on the tv advertisements for pharmaceuticals and fake news shows. It’s just alot of pink icing on the same old unjust, unfair, rancid, rotten, festering toxic cake. Henry Kissinger said “many will die for the new world order” and it’s happening now, but everybody’s focused intently on their I-Phone or tv. Tv don’t reflect the reality of the vast majority in any way, ya know? Jim Ellison sang, “when I turn on my tv screen, I don’t see nobody that looks like me”, but big deal, even when I did still see a few people who looked like me in the old MTV years, it might have given me some false hope, or vicarious living, second hand thrill, but it didn’t fix my life, in any way. I did not get to experience their successes first hand. And some of ’em hated it and fled the fame as fast as they could. Being “seen” aint everything, I’ll tell ya that. In parts of my life where I did stickout like a day glo middle finger, I had fans, free drinks, girls galore and lots and lots of all night laughing and barfly camaraderie, but I also had all these jealous spinster daytime people thinking it was their job to hiss gossip about me, or behavior modify me cause Judge Judy says all the people who look like me need to get another J-O-B, and the applause sign signals the studio audience, you know what I mean, I’ve been a public figure a couple times and it was no fun at all, just means you’re the subject or envy, scrutiny, everybody’s a critic, Simon Cowell and some ex Journey bassplayer gonna tell you “that was kinda pitchy, dawg!” So I don’t fall for the “getting discovered” dream no more, or the lottery dream, or the bootstraps dream, or the “happy reunions” dreams or any of it, anymore. Most of us are never gonna be selected, win, get somehow promoted or elevated by the rich folks to be their dancing, smiling, compliant humilation-entertainment monkeys, few of us get to frolic on beaches, or ride horses on rolling, lush green farms in West Virginia with our loves like say, RuPaul and her husband or those unreality show contestants on “The Bachelor” or “Farmer Wants Wife”. The majority of us are gonna do bullshit minimum wage menial labor until we get sick and die, or our knees give out, and wind up on the street or institutionalized. Walt Disney made us all believe in happy endings, captured us when we were young, but there really are no happy endings. Like Prince said before they killed him in the elevator, “in this life, you’re on your own!” Most people take the path of least resistance, have only loyalty to their tribe of origin, stay on the gravy train, kissass, obey the rich, believe that their clique or elite insider Starbellied Sneetches cult is somehow more enlightened and virtuos than all those lowly “others”, never think for themselves, watch tv and call that science, sometimes say they are antiwar but still somehow trust the government. I think there is bad people everywhere, but you don’t just judge people based on what school they went to, what color tie they wear on tv, or their presumed sexual preferences. How did three women administrators get paid millions and end up owning mansions during Black Lives Matter while all the real life grass roots, on the ground organizers, true community activists and street soldiers end up with criminal records or dying mysteriously?
