JUAN Y LA HORMIGA is a duo made up of Muchas Hormigas (vocals and melodica) and Juan Pablo Mazzola. As the album title suggests, they are from Valencia, Spain. After releasing a debut EP in 2022 and a couple of songs for compilations, here they are back with 7 new tracks. The duo’s influences are The JAYHAWKS, SOUL ASYLUM and the Minneapolis scene. You’ll hear this alternative country pop touch in songs like “After The War” or “About Us”. Muchas and Juan’s vocals perfectly mix with the 70s melodies in “Cupid’s Arrow” and the country side really shows “Play This Game.” On the other hand, “One Way Ticket” sounds like a cool cross between The BEATLES and SOUL ASYLUM. You’ll also find some cinematic atmospheres in “Stereo” and in “The Most Beautiful Bride.” Lots of melody and melancholy can be heard through these songs, this CD should definitely be part of your autumn soundtrack. /Laurent C.
