Chicago psych-rock band Spun Out have just released their second LP. Opening track “Paranoia” is the first single/video and it’s hard to resist this hypnotic bass line and weird dream atmosphere that creates a kind of indie rock meets The CURE vibe. “Fishing” is more psych-pop flirting with TEARS FOR FEARS and “Heart Thru Your Eyes” has a bit of 80s soul pop into it. You’ll hear fine melodies in “Lilacs” and cinematic tones in “Pale Green Sky” before the post-punk bass takes things over again in “High Life” and in “The Cult Of Your Love.” The psych-rock influences are more obvious in “Wild Enclosure” and “Reptilian” is a great closing song. Quite a surprising album that mixes melancholy and dreamy pop melodies with style. /Laurent C.
