A few months ago I wrote some words about “Ariel Belont’s Season 1, Vol 1” I’ve been a fan of his music since the late 90s in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After releasing some powerful albums over the last 15 years, he decided to split this new adventure in 2 eps. I would personally say that was a great idea, we all know how hard it is to release music today, having the people intrigued and paying attention to each every track could turn into a nightmare. In a age of only singles that have nothing to do with Rock and Roll, self a releasing a complete album of crafted songs is sometimes a shame, mostly because some gems might get lost in the way. So, in this sense, having 2 separate eps is a really cool concepto for the listener of the year 2024, it gives time understand each track individually, but also as a whole. “Season 4, Vol 2” kicks of with “Sick For The Cure”, this is an epic tune that Paul Stanley would love to be able to write in his 70s, an eclipsed and groovy beat slowly starts to heartbeat into the song after some bluesy arpeggios, with a late 1970’s early 1980’s sound. I could find some Classic UFO and Gary Moore in here, the chorus sounds like a lost KISS song from the “Creatures Of The Night” era, it gets even better after 3 minutes, when a choir of Beatlesque harmonies get into place. The second tune is “All About Luv”, a jazzy and swinged tale about love gone wrong, the drums and the riff in the beginning pave the way to the lyrics, it feels very intimate and honest, almost like a open letter. Almost as if “Hit The Road Jack” would have been written by David Bowie, somewhere in Argentina. The third track is called “Unconditional”, also a very 1970s glammy tune with a 2000 sound that evoques the likes of Mott The Hopple, T.Rex and even Marilyn Manson, catchy as hell. The ep closes with “Wicked Ways”, this song is totally brilliant, the production is also stellar, but it features some awesome steel guitar and magnificent drums. I would describe this like Pop – Western, perhaps one of Ariel’s best songs ever, the way the slide gets in the way after the drums should become some kind of trademark. Huge set of songs here, for real, produced by Nahuel Martorelli (who also played all these hipnotyc drums), at Vikingo Estudio, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I would so love to see these 2 eps released together as a gatefold vinyl, these set of songs belong to any tasty collection. /Juan Pablo Mazzola.
