Following the pop-poisoned debut “Alles Ist Gift” this 7 song blue vinyl introduces a new era for ALICE GIFT switching from full band to a duo with Djamila Paris. Opening with the dystopian “Krypta” followed by the dark waltz “Pride”, the almost pyche “Headwar” and the intimate piano driven “Too Much Outside” on side A, this record is like a cinematic journey taking you to unknown lands yet familiar. Side B is more about groovy feelings with an amazing and catchy version of 2PAC‘s “To Live and Die In L.A.” trading Californian sun for Berlin’s greyness. “Pride (Prequel)” is closer to Alice’ synthpop past in VELVET CONDOM/LISTE NOIRE with its 80s synth and 90s glam-wave vibe. The last song on here, “This Time” ends the record on a sad and nostalgic note. Put Brian ENO, the MANIC STREET PREACHERS and SOFT CELL in a blender and you’ll probably get something close to “Nothing Against Uplifting, But…” Alice never takes the easy route and that’s why there’s a strong identity in this record. Highly recommended! /Laurent C.
