The MANKY MELTERS could be Irish but they hail from Alsace in the East of France. From opening song “Adrift” to the last one (“Shenanigans”) they deliver high-energy celtic punk. I don’t have that many references in that genre so names like The REAL MCKENZIES or DROPKICK MURPHYS inevitably come to mind. Nevertheless, having a female singer brings a fresh touch of originality. “YOLO” almost sounds Western country but you’ll still get punk energy and hooligan backing vocals and the band actually turns into full-Western mode with the instrumental “Yee Ha.” “One More Round” stands out, it even has a bit of a CLASH vibe to it and a very catchy chorus. You’ll also get a punked-up version of Megan Richards‘ The Wandering Day” before the cheerful “Shenanigans”. A good EP to listen to while raising your glass to Shane MacGowan. /Laurent C.
