Good to see French rock’n’rollers HIGH-SCHOOL MOTHERFUCKERS back with a new 7 song record including 3 covers. “Kicked In The Head” is a great opener and comeback song mixing glam punk and punk rock’n’roll with style. “Boy In The City” has Scandinavian hard rock’n’roll influences with street punk backing vocals while “Rockstar” offers us some good and catchy heavy rock. “Water Into Wine” sounds like a good drinking anthem and speaking of drinking, the Parisian sleazy gang chose to cover “Drunk Like Me” among all DOGS D’AMOUR songs and if you know the guys I guess you can easily imagine why they did. Not as raucous as Tyla’s original version but it actually sounds really cool. There’s some serious glam punk fans/connoisseurs in HSMF and they prove it by covering The LAST OF THE TEENAGE IDOLS‘ “Gina” and since the band played their very first gig as a RAMONES tribute band, they naturally end this record with their own version of “Commando” making you feel like you’d gladly listen to a few more songs again. /Laurent C.
