When I decided to shoot a video for “I AIN’T NO,” I knew I wanted it to bring attention to our homeless community, and wanted to do it in a way that would invoke some empathy in the heart of the viewer, and perhaps inspire those who have it in their hearts to get involved, to join together to help provide relief and foster a lasting solution to the crisis. It was important to me to just capture what I saw exactly as I found it on my meanderings around Los Angeles. These scenes could be any major city really, but I wanted to just let our city and its people visually tell their story for those who are far removed from it or are without access. When I was heading back to the Metro train at the end of my day’s outing I came across an old E.T. video case leaning against the fence of a vacant lot. I instantly knew it needed to be in this story, and that it might hopefully lightheartedly lend a nostalgic message about ‘home’ on behalf of all those who are without, and dearly yearn for one. Prayers for the homeless, for the unemployed, for the disabled, for the immigrants, for the poor. If you too have ever found yourself or family on tough times and needed to visit your local food bank or church for a simple bag of groceries or meal ticket, you know how desperate and humbling it is to have to ask for help, to feel the hopelessness, the sense of failure that comes from facing such uncertain times. Please have a heart for those in need and do what you can this NATIONAL FOOD BANK DAY. Remember to be grateful and unjudging too on this LABOR DAY if you have an income, a job, no matter how great or meager.
