“this is the 21st century and we need to redefine r/evolution. this planet needs a people’s r/evolution. a humanist r/evolution. r/evolution is not about bloodshed or about going to the mountains and fighting. we will fight if we are forced to but the fundamental goal of r/evolution must be peace.
we need a r/evolution of the mind. we need a r/evolution of the heart. we need a r/evolution of the spirit. the power of the people is stronger than any weapon. a people’s r/evolution can’t be stopped. we need to be weapons of mass construction. weapons of mass love. it’s not enough just to change the system. we need to change ourselves. we have got to make this world user friendly. user friendly.
are you ready to sacrifice to end world hunger. to sacrifice to end colonialism. to end neo-colonialism. to end racism. to end sexism.
r/evolution means the end of exploitation. r/evolution means respecting people from other cultures. r/evolution is creative.
r/evolution means treating your mate as a friend and an equal. r/evolution is sexy.
r/evolution means respecting and learning from your children. r/evolution is beautiful.
r/evolution means protecting the people. the plants. the animals. the air. the water. r/evolution means saving this planet.
r/evolution is love.”

“Democracy depends on citizens being informed, and since our media, especially television (which is the most important source of news for most Americans) reports mostly what the people in power do, and repeats what the people in power say, the public is badly informed, and it means we cannot really say we have a functioning democracy.” (-Howard Zinn)
“We are living in dangerously weird times now. Smart people just shrug and admit they’re dazed and confused. The only ones left with any confidence at all are the New Dumb. It is the beginning of the end of our world as we knew it. Doom is the operative ethic.” (-Hunter S. Thompson)
If you’re not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” (-Malcolm X)
But I suppose the most revolutionary act one can engage in is… to tell the truth.” (-Howard Zinn)
“I am so tired of waiting, Aren’t you, For the world to become good And beautiful and kind.” (~ Langston Hughes)
You are talking to a leftist. I believe in the redistribution of wealth and power in the world. I believe in universal hospital care for everyone. I believe that we should not have a single homeless person in the richest country in the world. And I believe that we should not have a C.I.A. that goes around overwhelming governments and assassinating political leaders, working for tight oligarchies around the world to protect the tight oligarchy here at home.” (-Abbie Hoffman)
Youths are passed through schools that don’t teach, then forced to search for jobs that don’t exist and finally left stranded in the street to stare at the glamorous lives advertised around them.” (-Huey Newton)
“Liberals: “The DNC doesn’t rig its primaries.” DNC Lawyer in 2017: “We can legally select the candidate over cigars in a back room.” Yes, a DNC lawyer said this in court in 2017 and liberals pretend like it didn’t happen. Anyone who believes in democracy should leave the party.” (-Ryan Knight)
“We ain’t gonna fight no reactionary pigs who run up and down the street being reactionary; we’re gonna organize and dedicate ourselves to revolutionary political power and teach ourselves the specific needs of resisting the power structure, arm ourselves, and we’re gonna fight reactionary pigs with INTERNATIONAL PROLETARIAN REVOLUTION. That’s what it has to be. The people have to have the power: it belongs to the people.” (-Fred Hampton)
“Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them.” (-Assata Shakur)
“Pretty soon you will be branded a “conspiracy theorist” if you are skeptical about UFOs.” (-Primo Radical)
“We live in a society of an imposed forgetfulness, a society that depends on public amnesia.” (-Angela Davis)
“Authority is supposedly grounded in wisdom, but I could see from a very early age that authority was only a system of control and it didn’t have any inherent wisdom. I quickly realised that you either became a power or you were crushed” (-Joe Strummer)
“There is nothing more common than unsuccessful men with talent.” (-Joe Strummer)
“Don’t you know that slavery was outlawed?” “No,” the guard said, “you’re wrong. Slavery was outlawed with the exception of prisons. Slavery is legal in prisons.” I looked it up and sure enough, she was right. The Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution says: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” Well, that explained a lot of things. That explained why jails and prisons all over the country are filled to the brim with Black and Third World people, why so many Black people can’t find a job on the streets and are forced to survive the best way they know how. Once you’re in prison, there are plenty of jobs, and, if you don’t want to work, they beat you up and throw you in a hole. If every state had to pay workers to do the jobs prisoners are forced to do, the salaries would amount to billions… Prisons are a profitable business. They are a way of legally perpetuating slavery. In every state more and more prisons are being built and even more are on the drawing board. Who are they for? They certainly aren’t planning to put white people in them. Prisons are part of this government’s genocidal war against Black and Third World people.” (― Assata Shakur, Assata: An Autobiography)
I wasn’t going to be a respectable citizen.” (~ Cormac McCarthy)
“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.” (― Assata Shakur, Assata: An Autobiography)
WE LOVE BLACKIE ONASSIS (RIP)
We’ve lost another one of the good ones! When Urge Overkill were really big I was working at Tower Records in Harvard Square and still had a band of brothers who were writing songs at a really steady clip there for awhile, we really thought we were goin’ places even though we were always having troubles keeping drummers. We were really into rocknroll and you know everybody else was going alternative which to me always just seemed like ho hum, say nothing, formulaic, generic pop bullshit without soul, depth, meaning, or fun. Urge Overkill had all these really deep, intense songs like “View Of the Rain” or “The Mistake”, but also all kinds of shake your booty cocktail party fun pop anthems like “Sister Havana” and “Positive Bleeding”, and artsy tunes that are really kinda hard to even describe like “Vacation In Tokyo”–that song is so great, unique, and original. I only saw them live a couple times but their follow up to “Saturation”, “Exit The Dragon” was like the heaviest record I’d heard really since that Mother Love Bone mastepiece, “Apple”. They were so great-that’s the kinda band I love-one that can lay down real genuine heartfelt emotions and also kick out the fucking jams, too. I think Blackie was even in Motorcycle Boy for a minute. I love you, Blackie! We’ll miss you! (RIP)
We guarantee our vote no matter how many times they play us. They can just say GOP is racist, use symbolism like kente cloth, say voting rights and tell us they care. But don’t try to leave the plantation or you’ll see who they really are. Watch Black politicians, media figures and white Libs who are protecting our democracy run to be the most vicious attackers of Cornel West to prove their loyalty to @TheDemocrats and Jim Crow Joe Biden. Learn the difference between Pro Black and Pro Dem, it’s not the same thin. Telling your voters straight to their face that you really don’t give a damn who they want, makes that whole “We’re fighting to save democracy” con job @TheDemocrats ” have been pushing a little bit harder to sell.” (-Black In The Empire)
Neoliberals insist the reason the economic gap between rich and poor countries has not changed in over a decade is because of corruption and “inefficiency”. This argument is just warmed-over racism — as if every single Global South country is hopelessly corrupt, and as if systemic corruption doesn’t exist in the Global North (check out the rampant insider trading in the US Congress). But the reality is that the (US-dominated) global financial system is designed in a way that intentionally subordinates these poor countries, traps them in debt, imposes neoliberal austerity on them, and prevents them (through sanctions, sabotage, coups, and wars) from implementing any kind of economic model that would actually lead to high-quality national development. This also explains why China — which escaped neoliberal shock therapy and has its own unique socialist model — has been able to develop while many other “emerging and developing” economies trapped in the neoliberal model have been stagnant.” (-Ben Norton)
“America… just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.” (-Hunter S. Thompson)
“Democracy is not something you believe in or a place to hang your hat, but it’s something you do. You participate. If you stop doing it, democracy crumbles.” (-Abbie Hoffman)
“I learnt that fame is an illusion and everything about it is just a joke. I’m far more dangerous now, because I don’t care at all.” (-Joe Strummer)
“People get used to anything. The less you think about your oppression, the more your tolerance for it grows. After a while, people just think oppression is the normal state of things. But to become free, you have to be acutely aware of being a slave.” (― Assata Shakur, Assata: An Autobiography)
“If we have a democracy, then why are the values and priorities of our government completely divorced from the values and priorities of the People?” (-Primo Radical)
“I couldn’t care less about this Trump indictment BS because I understand it has nothing to do with national security or the law. It is a political move by the neoliberal fascist state just like the indictment of the African Peoples Socialist Party. The state wants no opposition.” (-Ajamu Baraka)
“The bread is getting more expensive and the circuses are getting more offensive.” (-Primo Radical)
I was a diehard Jeff Dahl fan in my early twenties and he got me into so much good music from Freddy Lynxx and Gargoyles, Creamers, Lisa Lombardo, Bebe Buell, Beat Angels, and Poison Idea. He had the best underground fanzine of the early nineties, “Sonic Iguana” and also did that memorable tribute to Stiv with Poison Idea. I worked at Taang! Records for awhile as an intern but mostly just to appease a mother in law cause i knew they were never gonna hire me and pay me a real wage cause he had all these Harvard chicks working like crazy for college credit and a real formidable, smart lawyerly person named Deb Klein who I always had a big crush on, and a cool hardcore kid named Chris Conway running the record store, i was mostly like a go-fer, fetching coffee, shoveling the snow and talking to all these pretty blonde girls Curtis had doing his calls to indie record stores and shit-they were all nice girls, cool girls, but all of ’em were in love with Evan Dando, my old nemesis, including my first true love the midwestern Bardot lookalike Smiths chick! So I ended up doing some press stuff, bio writing, one sheets, fliers to pass out to bootboys in the Pit of Harvard Square, that kinda thing. I still love Poison Idea. In the timeless and immortal words of Jerry A., “I’m drunk and obnoxious, I hate the rich!”
“Schools in amerika are interested in brainwashing people with amerikanism, giving them a little bit of education, and training them in skills needed to fill the positions the capitalist system requires. As long as we expect amerika’s schools to educate us, we will remain ignorant.”
