IT IS ALWAYS SUNDAY IN THE DEADEND DESERT GHOST TOWN
Nothing to do on a slow moving Sunday in the desert, I’ll water the herb garden and lettuce and walk around in the yard, maybe write a lyric down in the purple spiral notebook but really a big part of why I’m not as prolific a songwriter as I used to be is the songs are written, the dilemma is how to get them all more properly recorded. The wife helps me sometimes with tech challenges but it is increasingly rare that she and I have alone time as she is multitasking and busy with so many external obligations and job responsibilities outside the home. Trying to rally some former band members to help me get some foreward momentum happening on the recording front. My loud teen is playing Nancy Sinatra “Sugartown” loudly at almost seven in the morning here and I’m kinda restless and a little frustrated with the tedium. Things just move real slow here. Too slow here, like most people’s idea of get together means six months from now. A cool art punk who works at the tourist trap book store is supposed to come work with me on some new music but I feel like this urgency and everybody else is kinda sittin’ in their chair thinkin’ “it might rain”.
JOHNNY THUNDERS
I used to own hundreds of Thunders bootlegs, but I don’t listen to Johnny Thunders very often anymore cause for me, it’s like Motown, Elvis, or the Beatles, I’ve just heard it all so many times, it’s just part of my DNA, and I can’t stand the gentrification hipster suckup Johnny Thunders cover bands, so sick of that shit, but every once in awhile, I’ll think of some totally soulful and vulnerable and understated Thunders lyric and it’ll take me back to my early twenties when we had a whole enterprise pulsing-a fanzine, cable access tv show, after hours rent parties, a crash and burn glam gang making a pretty original blues punk caterwaul, trips to the city to see the Heartbreakers and Waldos concerts-the Oddballs and Cheetah and Circus Of Power. Miss them daze. Thunders stared me down once, dunno what he was trying to communicate exactly but he definitely gave me the penetrating staredown. I was just a kid but felt disapproved of by JT, rejected. Stiv was the opposite-he made me feel great every time I brushed with him. Also, Zaremba. Always nice to me. I still love a lot of Jt’s deep tracks, especially songs like “Disappointed” and “Critic’s Choice”.
