He had all these old concerts he’d taped offa tv way back in the day of Tina and Ike and the whole revue with the Ikettes and shit and she was of course an unstoppable blues goodess back then-as good as it gets, she shook and shimmied and roared like a lioness and I envied her hair and had no idea she wore wigs until I was an adult probably! As a younger man, I can tell you I was always looking for a girl who was as cool as Tina Turner. The ultimate bombshell tornado sexbomb rocknroll superstar with oceans of high impact soulpower. I was always rooting for her to do one of those stripped down Rick Rubin style return to roots gutbucket blooze and nasty rocknroll album, but as a thoughtful school teacher friend of mine once pointed out, she probably had her fill of down home scuzzy chitlin circuit raw powered country roadhouse hardtimes get down way back in her early days and she proably avoided genres and songs that reminded her of Ike Turner once she made her big comeback. I was never really into “Private Dancer”, but I still love all her rocknroll shit, of course. In that “Creem Magazine” documentary, Brother Wayne talks about how “Creem” was like our social media before the internet and yeah I can testify that those print zines and record stores were where me and my new wave-Prince-Van halen and the Clash friends gathered to exchange ideas and information, seek musicians to form bands, meet cool girls, all that stuff-our underground world. “Flipside” and “Maximum Rocknroll”, too. Nowadays, there is like “Vive Le Rock” magazine in the UK which I seldom get to see cause I can’t pay $25 for imported magazines and their award show jams and all those big festivals like “Rebellion” and “Goodbye Cruel World”, but really for ancient of days exiled old cowboys like me, there aint nothin’ happenin’ at all.
