When I was 14/15 year old bohomeless gadfly guttersnipe runaway shamefully running up everybody’s phonebills and mooching beer and coffeecan quarters for pizza on St. mark’s Place offa all my old uncles and some rich film makers and actor/DJ’s in a giant loft on Astor Place, I ended up living with two chicks on Rivingston Street. I was dating one of ’em-who was about ten years older and a real IT GIRL youthquaker named Lisa. God I was stupid in love with her. I just wanted to stay in bed with her forever and “stare into each other’s eyes”, but you know the always pulsing Downtown clubscene was perpetually summoning her back out into the night…into the night. Our roommate Minkie would get me past all the drag queens who were supposed to be checking I.D.’s at the door and we spent many nights at places like Save The Robots, Neither/Nor, The World, Palladium, Downtown Beirut, Danceteria-everybody was so glamourous and glittering back then. First time I remember fitting in anywhere. Those girls would so my makeup and spray my hair up and the older filmmaker actor/DJ friends of theres would spraypaint me into a silver outfit and we’d go romping around all night. Mostly we stayed in the Village but every once in awhile we’d get into a cab and go uptown where our pal Morgan was DJ at The Dive, a famous bar where I first dropped acid and the garage scene was in full vibe. I still had another love back in the cornfed suburbs of the forever torturous, dumbed down flyover states and that is why I was running everybody’s phonebills up. I was trying to keep her in my life. We had discovered all the new music together when we were innocents and I always suffered with a deeply rooted sentimental attachment to her. Of course no IT GIRL youthquaker is gonna be satiated by a greasy know nothing, inexperienced, Dickensian street waif and she moved on to more educated older artiostes who were her peers and I stupidly limped back to the tank plant town and they put the screws to me in the behavior modification gulags and I never got the first love back. Joe Jackson makes me think about both of those women in my weakening old age. I know the guy’s a dick and a prima donna, but boy could he write a song.
I find myself spending an awful lot of time processing so much death all around me, all the here and gone, seeing people’s intimate treasures get shitcanned by the survivors and their valauables soldoff and liquidated. My friend Corey L. died of lung cancer and I remember seeing him in a youtube video at the hospice on a oxygen machine, still trying to inspire and help others-he’d always been a community leader even back in his eighties rapper days when he was a feared battle rapper known as Casper G., I loved that guy, we grew up together and had rekindled our brotherhood in middle age on the social media until his untimely death. I always have an impulse to contact the children of my dead homies, but I have come to recgnize sometimes it is kindest to leave people alone. My grandparents who raised me are gone, two of my kids are semi-missing, living their own twenty-something lives out there in the world in faroff cities. I help my caregiver wife sometimes when she visits a 93 year old client at the convalescent home who has short term memory loss but still knows all this fucking high culture, esoteric, highbrowed, multilingual, world traveled superbrain retired professor stuff, she climbed Mt. Everest when she was seventy, a really heavyweight inttellectual, formidable force of nature and she tells us stories, and sometimes we hangout in the dining room with her neighbors and they all tell us jokes and complain about the institutional “art” and bad food. We have come to love them. I see a little bit of myself in the dear old woman in that my own vocabulary is shrinking dramatically from you know a million wasted nights of hard partying for decades-that shit can take a toll on your memory-I forget words, just like my grandmother. Also an old biker friend who gave everybody nicknames cause he could not remember their actual names, supposedly. I dunno where the time goes. I guess I pissed a lot of my life away in that dark bar singing all night with the Tom Waits alleycats and Brass Ass poledancers. They are all dead now except the hillbilly sparrow who fell in love with one of my exes and the juggler standup comic who married one of my others. People always told him that he reminded them of Mickey Rourke and he’d say, “Mickey Rourke’s JUST ACTING!” I always loved that guy. Anyways, there’s a bit of Veronica in me for sure. I never got past Dexy’s Midnight Runners. I never got over any of it.

Ukraine, France and Germany admit it was just signed to stall Russia. Funny how almost everything the Democrats have blamed on Russia turns out to have been done by them.
