SCREAMIN’ BLUE MESSIAHS
Sunday nights, we were sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, sometimes at the guitar player’s apartment, sometimes visiting those goth chicks an hour or so down the highway in Indiana, but we were usually watching “120 Minutes”. Back then, we talked to each other using these phones, with rotary dials or beepy buttons and curly chords that plugged into the wall so we could not go far but we’d call each other up to discuss all the crazy cool new music. For some reason our girl pals were less enamored with the rippin’ Dr. Feelgood influenced pub rock power trio Screamin’ Blue Messiahs than all us energetic, malt liquored up tenage punk boys in the boots and jackets who would always have to jump up and square dance around when that silly “Flintstones” song came on, we thought thy were fun. All the post punk and underground rock UK bands back then had attitude and creativity kinda lacking in most of my countrymen. The Messiahs bleating rockabilly was always kinda takin’ the piss outta Murkkka’s big car and military, sports patriotism and religious fanatics in songs like “Lets Go Down To The Woods”. Bill carter and the Messiahs took their scuzzy rockabilly punk assault down to Australia on tour with the Cramps. That had to be a blast!
In more recent decades, all the best music always comes from Australia, in case you haven’t noticed. I dunno what’s up with that. I’m hearin’ murmurs that the Empire is gonna try to use Australia to fight China like they used the Ukraine to fight Russia. Madness. Just say no, Australia. Their government officials must have visited with Les Wexner and pals on that island, cause they won’t even fight for ASSANGE. Sad. But yeah the Screamin’ Blue Messiahs were a dabba doo time. We’d drink our cheap gas station wine and go to the punk club and scowl at the local ROTC neo nazis we thought of as total poser shitheads, but really mostly hated cause the girls liked ’em better than us, they were the punk celebs in that nearby community and lived with the main older punk band in a delapidated house downtown with graffiti on the walls and skinheads who took turns sitting on the roof with a gun to scare away any potential plunderers. I spent the night a couple times, they were into different styles of punk then we were, but they still rolled out the cigarette strewn dirty floor for us outta towners and I think that may have been the first place I heard the Viletones. That local band used to really love the Modern Lovers and that “Nobody Called Picasso An Asshole” song. I liked “WILD BLUE YONDER!”

I dunno how many times Ozzy’s already retired but I wish him well. Growing up I was never a big Sabbath head, even though many of my boyhood heroes like Alex Mitchell still yack about those first couple of Sabbath lp’s. I remember back at Baptist reform school in 83, the crazy evangelicals really did think he was the prince of darkness even though their own headmaster was a creepy obese predator who was inappropriate with young boys. Then, they told us Obama was Murkkka’s dad even though he droned kids and helped cover up the big BP ecocide in the Gulf and poisoned water in Flint. Me myself, I think Ozzy might still be a better role model than either of those guys-he did a buncha crazy shit but he fought his way outta no place to poop indoors poverty and wrote the greatest lyric of the rocknroll era: “Finished with my woman cause she couldn’t help me with my mind”. PLUS he wrote “War Pigs”, the Murkkkan war machine’s national anthem, and really, has there ever ever been a better heavy metal song than fucking “CRAZY TRAIN”??? I like ole Ozzy and wish him health, prosperity, peace and love. It’s funny when I used to work at a fuckedup nightclub all the hicks and homeboys would always call me “Ozzy” which is how I knew I’d gotten fat. Happened again while I was walking past the frathouses to the county fair to see Joan Jett! “Look! It’s….(Any Dick In A Band)!”
