Undercover Slut “Haters Gonna HATE”

10 years after their album “Amerikka Macht Frei” and after quite a few EPs and singles, UNDERCOVER SLUT are back with a new 10 song album, a new line-up and a new approach to their music. While they were often described as a glam punk version of MARILYN MANSON flirting with WHITE ZOMBIE, they now have broadened their influences. UCS still have this NEWLYDEADS/death rock vibe but they have also incorporated modern electronic sounds in these new songs, sometimes more melodic than before (“F-Bomb”), and mix their industrial metal to American hip-hop (“Insult To Injury”, “Dance Dirt”.) While the MANSON influence can still be heard in “Chloroform Nation” or in “Black Phillip”, it is mixed to electro/techno sounds and rap vocals. It sometimes even gets a bit more experimental with “Vice”, ambient (White Gloves”) and dark hip-hop (“I Lie, U Die”) before ending with a slight DAFT PUNK and gospel note in “Supreme.”
As the apocalyptic collage of the cover (would look great on vinyl!) suggests, this is a good soundtrack for the terrifying times we live in. Lovers gonna love! /Laurent C.

Down To Rock #12 (November 2014)

polaroid_teddy_dtrMy name is Teddy Heavens and I’m bringing you the latest Sleaze/Glam/Punk/Metal and Trash rock and roll news from the Golden State and the streets (and gutters) of Hollywood, California! From the Valleys to the alleys, I’ll find the coolest bands to report on and let you know what’s up from the Rock and Roll capital of the world!
Check out my Glam Punk website at www.ftwrecords.com

Bands I’ve been digging the last few months:

The Montecristos-this is the new band featuring my guitar hero Neal X from Sigue Sigue Sputnik!!! Cool rockabilly tinged rock with Neal singing and Slinging the Gibson guitar!! Catch them on Facebook.

Butcher Babies-New 5 song release of cover tunes from these contemporary metal Plasmaticsesque big titty rocker chicks. Any band that names their band after a Plasmatics song is OK with me. The Deadly 7 out of Las Vegas (and rivals of the Playboy chicks from BB) had a better choice of songs they covered, more punk rock than metal, but tits are tits, so check them out.

Salems Lott-New shock rock band outta Los Angeles looking like X JAPAN and sounding like a reved up Skid Row. They are brining back big hair to the Sunset Strip, featuring Toe Knee from Willow Wisp with some new young guns. Check out their single on Itunes “No Choice To Love”.

SalemsLott

Charm City Devils-Baltimore based hard rock band with a current release “Battles” out now, and sounding like a cross of Guns N Roses and Soundgarden. This is sleazy street rock n roll making noise on the East Coast.

Night By Night-Young English band bringing back the melodic 80’s sound. Clean but sleazy enough to be interesting , a cross of modern AOR metal like Halestorm, with a Def Leppard touch. Interesting enough for you to check out.

The Beautifully Demolished-New band from ex Jetboy replacement singer, tearing up the Central California scene. This is AC/DC 70’s party rock with a 6 song self titled release on Itunes and via Demon Doll Records.

Vinyl Tattoo-Superstar cover band in Las Vegas featuring Frank Dimino from Angel on vocals and Oz Fox from Stryper on guitar. This band rocks and are a must see if in Vegas where I like to go to relax. They do classic rock and roll along with Angel songs and as Frank is one of my favorite singers of all time, I had to mention his Vegas band. He also just inked a deal with Frontier records for a solo release, so cheers to hearing some new music from Frank Dimino!! Find em on Facebook.

Undercover Slut– Paris France glam goth metal legends sent me a teaser song of their up coming EP release “Vice”. The song is “Chloroform Nation” and it’s a departure from the past goth industrial material that the band is known for. This song mixes the industrial flavor with modern electronics in a very “danceable” form. The band plan on releasing a series of singles and EP’s leading up to a full release. Hit them up at:

CD Review:

Girl-Live In London

This band was a huge influence on me when I was a kid. I always loved that punk/glam/hard rock sound and along with Hanoi Rocks, these guys were my fave. Featuring Phil Lewis and Phil Collen and sounding very snotty, they didn’t fit into the NWOBHM scene, but they were great. This Live In London CD release marks the eve of their debut release in 1980 and features songs like “My Number”, “Heartbreak America” and “Hollywood Tease”, along with covers like “Do You Love Me” and “You Really Got Me”, showing the diverse influences this group had. Deadline/Cleopatra Records gets props for releasing this live gem, and now they just need to release the two studio records “Sheer Greed” and “Wasted Youth”.

What’s been up in Los Angeles:

Inside Metal Movie-A new movie highlighting the hard rock and metal bands form the mid 70’s that ruled Los Angeles and Hollywood, bands like Angel, Legs Diamond, Detective, Van Halen, Snow, Quiet Riot and bands from the early 80’s like WASP, Motley Crue and Ratt. All of these bands are featured along with Rodney’s English Disco scene, The Starwood and the Rainbow Bar and Grill. This film breaks down the rock and roll heyday in Los Angeles and is a nice document of bands that made it and a lot that didn’t. It’s been screened around town and is getting good reviews and building steam, and it’s starting to screen around the country now. By all accounts it’s a good lesson on what went on with the LA music scene in the 70’s/80’s, as told by those that played the clubs and participated in the debauchery. Find the Facebook page to see when it will be playing in your town.

Hollywood Rocks Night @ Loaded with Spiders N Snakes/Rebel Rebel-Glitter and Glam reunion at the new hip rock and roll club in Hollywood, Loaded. Spiders and Snakes featuring Rik Fox from WASP and Steeler on bass and Betsy from Bitch on vocals, along with regulars Tim, Lizzy and Chris from Sweet Savage tore it up with songs like “Piece of Your Action” and the Angel version of “Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore”, and their new single “Kawaski City” from the upcoming Year Of The Snake 25th anniversary release. Rebel Rebel opened up the show and played all the usual songs from the last 25 years and it was cool playing for a packed rock and roll audience (I play guitar for R2), with many faces from long ago at the Coconut Teazer Glitter and Glam shows. Spiders N Snakes are having a record release party at the Whiskey in Hollywood in mid December for their 25th anniversary, so do yourself a favor and be there if you live in the LA area.

Undercover Slut “Amerikkka Macht Frei” (2009)

From cold Parisian catacombs to hot California sun! This new UNDERCOVER SLUT album was recorded at the Chop Shop studio in Hollywood and this is no surprise, the SLUTS finally have the sound they deserve on CD!
Despite the line-up changes throughout the years, the band still waves the industiral glam punk flag high and never sounded so good with songs like “Shadow Song”, “Anna Nicole Smith” my favourite track on this album or sleazy modern trash song “Dear Dead Prez”.
The band wasn’t afraid to experiment a bit as well on tracks like “Black CNN” and its gangsta rap influences, “Kastration Kar krashes” and its jungle drum beats or “Creature feature” and its electro loop. While the band’s spirit is not that far from The NEWLYDEADS, there’s also a bit of a Marilyn Manson feel in a song like “WHITE WHORE Conspiracy” or a bit of MINISTRY in “What Kinda Lamb Do Ya Think I Am?”.
To complete this dark and decadent party, you’ll find a few guests on this album, people such as Eric Griffin (MURDERDOLLS, SYNICAL…) on “Kastration Kar Krashes”, Teddy Heavens (from L.A’s shock rock kings REBEL REBEL) on “Dali Was A Junkie” and more surprisingly Charles Manson’s son Matthew Roberts on spoken word duet “Jesus Kills! Coroner Saves!”. Sure this was recorded in sunny California but that doesn’t mean you’ll find happy party songs on this album. Singer and lyricist ‘O’ still mixes his dark personal feelings and hate towards the system to social issues like animal liberation.
The best album I’ve heard in that style in a long while!/Laurent C.

Undercover Slut

“Amerikkka Macht Frei” , the new UNDERCOVER SLUT album has been out for a few weeks now. I guess this title could get a brand new meaning in these election times…. The darkest industrial glam punk band from Paris, France recorded this new album in Los Angeles and are now ready to conquer the world. ‘O’ (lead vocals) tells us about it, year 2008 and the future for UCS…

You have a new CD out, can you tell us a bit about it and give us details about the recording? Any anecdotes?

‘O’ : Allelujah! “Amerikkka Macht Frei” is finally out after a million issues, delays & fuckin’ drama! started pre-prod. w/Stevo Bruno, who I chosed for his work on Brides Of Destruction 1st album. Stevo was a cool cat, but way too fucked-up on blow & smack to properly finish “AMF”. Fake started recording his drum parts on Tommy Lee’s drumkit at the Chop Shop, we were supposed to come back to Next Level for the rest of the recording, then fuckin’ Stevo got evicted from LAPD for shooting guns inside Next Level, then everything went downhill. after a while we had to stop working w/Stevo & finally ended up recorded the entire “AMF” album @ the Chop Shop with Chris Baseford (Rob Zombie, Tommy Lee, Genitorturers). As far as anecdotes, Divine played a couple songs on Mick Mars’ Les Paul. Matthew Roberts, Charles Manson’s son came in for a duet with me on “Jesus Kills! Coroner Saves!” after being introduced to me by Marilyn Manson’s ex-girlfriend. It was great recording there at that huge studio. Amazing place, I have great memories of being there!

There’s been some line-up changes in the band, can you tell us about the current members?

‘O’ : The least we could say is there’s been tonsa line-up changes. So much, I don’t even remember who the fuck played in UNDERCOVER SLUT. So far, Divine is the best songwriter ever. Drag is a fuckin’ driving force. Kraze plays drums the way Swiss make Rolex watches! The vibe is all good and that artistic partnership is fuckin’ killer!

Can you talk about the evolution of the band? Some new elements have been added to UCS’ music on this new album.

‘O’ : I don’t see the point of releasing the same album twice. That would be fuckin’ pathetic. Musicwise, I enjoy a million bands, all influences are so diverse, “Amerikkka Macht Frei” is that monster we created on those Hollywood hills.

You have a few guests on the album, how did you get the idea of inviting them?

‘O’ : Teddy from Rebel Rebel is my man, no question about it! I know Eric from Murderdolls/Wednesday 13 fame since early stages of Synical. Matthew Roberts (Charles Manson’s son) was introduced to us by Marilyn Manson’s ex. Nikki Sixx was supposed to make it, but his busy “Heroin Diaries” schedule wouldn’t allow him to guest on “AMF”.

How did you get to meet Dean Karr who took the photos for your album and filmed your video for « Shadow Song »?

‘O’ : Dean Karr belongs to that Chop Shop clique where we conceived our monster known as “Amerikkka Macht Frei”. When it came to the point of finding a video director/photographer, it was a logical step to work with that tinseltown fuckin’ genius!

Your CURE cover « Killing An Arab » finally doesn’t appear on the album. Any chance to see it released on another support?

‘O’ : Patience, “Killing An Arab” should be out on a vinyl format later on in 2K9.

You have this shock rock image and attitude but you also speak out for animals for instance. What kind of reactions do you get from people?

‘O’ : Love and hate. Nothing in between really.

Since year 2008 has just finished, can you give us your own 2008 poll?:

“The Hyena & Other Men” by Pieter Hugo

“There Will Be Blood” by Paul Thomas Anderson

What about this book you started writing a while back?

‘O’ : “yOur gOd is my whOre” isn’t done yet, didn’t have enough time to finish it yet, will be available soon or later though! My publisher wants to release it, just need enough time to finish the whole drama! It will be worth the wait though…

‘O’ : Promote the hell out of “Amerikkka Macht Frei”, play as many decent shows as possible! A bunch of UCS propaganda toys will be released here and there… All info will be posted on a regular basis both on http://www.undercoverslut.com and http://www.myspace.com/undercoverslut
