Italian sleazy rockers BASTARDOGS are back with a new album. 10 songs full of raw street metal riffs and hooligan backing vocals. Once again, the name of WRATHCHILD (U.K) comes to mind first, especially on the songs that were already on their previous EP (“Sex Machine”, “NUSU”), but it is mainly because of Bonne’s vocals ; BASTARDOGS don’t sound as glammy/shock rock as WRATHCHILD, they lean more on the sleaze metal side.
These four guys love their heavy metal, and you can definitely hear that on songs like “Last Night”, “Drinkin’ My Brain Off”, “Zombietown” or”Bad Dogs”, sometimes evoking W.A.S.P. (especially the guitars.)
“Edge Of Youth”, a more melodic song, is about CRASH DÏET‘s Dave Lepard (RIP),and that’s not very surprising since the band could easily fit in the Scandinavian 80s metal revival even though they’re Italian!
There’s an old-school flavour in this album that makes it quite enjoyable./Laurent C.

Simon Chainsaw “Don’t Kill Rock’n’Roll”
Australian globetrotter/rocker SIMON CHAINSAW is back with a brand new 12 song colourful album recorded with his French backing band. Opening song “Don’t Kill Rock’n’Roll” sets the atmosphere of this record, heavier than the previous releases, but still melodic, punk rock played by heavy rockers (Simon’s vocals sometimes sound a bit like The OFFSPRING‘s Dexter Holland or SCORPIONS‘ Klaus Meine!)
Choruses in songs like “Don’t Kill Rock’n’Roll” or “Watch Out (Preciosa)” are quite catchy, and you’ll get enough guitar solos for your next air guitar session! Although the band’s style sometimes flirts with action rock, the more melodic/emo punk side of this album (“What We Aim”, “Eulogy”…) reminds me of SECOND RATE (the old band of bass player Nasty Samy and guitar player Billy The Kill), and when SIMON CHAINSAW covers SECOND RATE‘s “Don’t Deserve My Love”, it all comes full circle…
If you like up-tempo tunes with powerful drums and tight guitar riffs, then you’ll fall for “never Say Never”, “Hanging Me Out To Dry”, “Rules Of Life” and “We Are One.”
SIMON CHAINSAW will be on tour in Europe in April, so make sure you’ll check “Don’t Kill Rock’n’Roll” before that!/Laurent C.
